General: The Quad 303 is the power amplifier from the recently continued legendary 3-series by Quad. In this 3-series you will also find the 33 preamplifier, 3 integrated amplifier and the 3CDT CD transport. The Quad 3-series consists of newly released equipment which in terms of design and musicality is based on the vintage Quad 3-series from the late 1960s. Almost every audiophile, and especially the audiophile who has been in the audio hobby for some time, knows the legendary Quad 33 and 303 amplifier set, now in a new guise.

Technology: The looks may be retro with its vertical chassis and cooling fins on the front, but fortunately the technology inside the amplifier has been modernized. This new Quad 303 uses modern complementary transistors for more linear, powerful and stable amplification, even when the transistors are pushed hard. The Quad 303 is a compact amplifier, you can use it as both a stereo amplifier and a mono power amplifier in bridged mode. On paper it delivers 2 x 50 Watts at 8 Ohm and 2 x 70 Watts at 4 Ohm in stereo mode, in bridged mode the Quad 303 delivers 140 Watts at 8 Ohm and 170 Watts at 4 Ohm. In many situations a single Quad 303 in stereo mode is already sufficient, but for people with more difficult loudspeakers or those who like to turn the volume knob up higher, it is possible to add a second Quad 303 and use them as mono amplifiers. Aesthetically it is also a beautiful set to have a Quad 33 preamplifier between two 303 power amplifiers. The Quad 303 has both unbalanced RCA inputs and balanced XLR inputs.

Sound: The Quad 303 is clearly a more modern amplifier with better and purer components compared to the Quad 3-series equipment that came to market almost 60 years ago. This results in easier playback, more transparency, dynamics and drive. But what is important is that the organic and welcoming sound of the vintage 3-series has been preserved. Voices sound pure and full and immediately grab attention. Instruments sound rhythmic and pleasant and the atmosphere of the space in live recordings is effectively conveyed to your listening room. Because the Quad 303 also has more modern tonal characteristics, you can also confidently play electronic music, hip-hop, dance or pop on it. If you buy a second Quad 303 and use them as mono power amplifiers in bridged mode, you not only have more power, but the soundstage also grows as a result, and a pair of Quad 303s play more easily, more powerfully and even more detailed than a single Quad 303 in stereo mode. You can of course use the Quad 303 as a high-quality power amplifier with various preamplifiers or D/A Converters with volume control, and also thanks to the balanced outputs you can use the Quad 303 with many types of equipment. But actually, to be honest, there is only 1 real preamplifier that belongs with this Quad 303 power amplifier, and that is the Quad 33 preamplifier. Then you have an aesthetically and tonally perfect match.
