General : The Esoteric D-05 is a high-end D/A Converter with various upsampling capabilities.

Technical : Built in Japan, the Esoteric D-05 is a precision instrument with exceptionally low harmonic distortion. PCM signals (44.1kHz or 48kHz) can be upsampled by a factor of 2 (88.2kHz / 96kHz) or 4 (176.4kHz / 192kHz). You also have the option to convert all PCM signals to DSD64 (SACD) format. Combined with the various digital filters, this allows you to personalize the sound of the Esoteric D-05 in a simple way. Esoteric is known for their excellent build quality and tremendous precision in both technical design and sound.

Listening : The Esoteric D-05 doesn't really reveal a distinct 'character'; it is an extremely honest and transparent DAC. With great precision and sensitivity, even the smallest details in space are rendered. The soundstage is enormously 3D yet very natural, neither larger nor smaller than it should be. With the Esoteric D-05 you immediately hear that this is a high-end device, the musical level is extremely high. Although the Esoteric D-05 sounds bright, clean and open, it is not a technical or analytical, fatiguing device to listen to. The reproduction is simply natural and clear, which is pleasant for longer listening sessions.
