General: 2-way full-range magnetostatic ribbon speakers.

Technical: The Analysis Audio Epsilon is the larger sibling of the Omicron, the smallest speaker from Analysis Audio in Greece. The Epsilon has been completely redesigned and now features single-wire terminals and a modified crossover. Like all other Analysis Audio speakers, the Epsilon is a 2-way speaker with an extremely low crossover point for the tweeter. From 650 Hz onwards, the ultra-fast ribbon midrange/tweeter takes over from the ribbon woofer/midrange unit. Filtering is therefore avoided in the sensitive 2500 Hz region that is typical in 2-way speakers. The crossover itself is a 6dB filter with minimal components and minimal phase shift in the transition range. The Epsilon's impedance is around 5 ohms and extremely flat, making it a simple load for the amplifier used. The tweeter itself is a work of art. It is a 105 cm long and almost 4 cm wide pure ribbon, encased in Kapton. Ribbons are known to sound ultra-fast, transparent and uncolored, and this ribbon midrange/tweeter of the Epsilon ranks among the best we have ever heard. With conventional dome tweeters, the dome is driven at its edge and all forces are distributed through the diaphragm. This is not the case with the Epsilon ribbon. The diaphragm is driven across its entire surface. The same applies to the bass/midrange panel. Conventional woofers and midrange drivers are usually driven forcefully in the center with a voice coil, which creates stress in the cones. Not so with Analysis Audio. In fact, both diaphragms of all Analysis Audio speakers are the voice coil itself, so no cones or domes are driven at all. The woofer panel is also a ribbon, but the panel here is trapezoidal in shape. This is unusual and prevents resonances and standing waves in the foil. What is even more special is that the woofer/midrange ribbon is not stretched very tightly in the frame, but is instead suspended by a kind of rubber edge. The panel can therefore move very freely, and this allows the Epsilon to reproduce particularly deep bass. The Epsilon is relatively compact but noticeably larger than the Omicron, measuring 132 cm high by 61 cm wide and 6 cm deep. The sensitivity is certainly adequate at 86 dB, and the Epsilon sounds sublime even with amplifiers from around 2 x 50 watts, but we recommend a somewhat more powerful amplifier for the Epsilon. The maximum power handling of the Epsilon is 250 watts, so the Epsilon can also play quite loud, though this is not necessary as the direct radiation ensures that the entire music reproduction is fully rendered even at lower volumes. The Analysis Audio Epsilon is a high-end ribbon speaker from Analysis Audio's premium segment and it sounds fantastic, just like the other speakers from this manufacturer.

Listening : The Analysis Audio Epsilon is unmistakably a bigger brother to the Omicron. The Epsilon sounds essentially the same, but it clearly plays deeper in the bass, the soundstage is somewhat larger, and the Epsilon can generally play a bit more easily at high volumes. Fresh out of the box, the new Epsilon already sounds great, but it's clear that these ribbon speakers need some break-in time, like any other high-end speaker. After 100 hours of play, the Epsilon is already fully broken in. The Epsilons play with remarkable airiness and 3D quality, and what strikes you immediately is the beautiful deep bass and extremely fine dynamic rendition. You hear things on this speaker that you haven't heard before. The Epsilon is a dipole speaker and therefore must be positioned at least 80cm from the rear wall for serious listening. When you listen to Analysis Audio speakers, you can hear that they feature cabinetless designs. Cabinet resonances are completely absent, and that produces a very fine and soothing sound, there is nothing that disturbs. All that remains is the perfect and pure musical presentation, and that is very special to hear. The Epsilon can play quite loud, delivers superb bass, and you can really play all types of music through it. The Analysis Audio Epsilon is permanently available at Ohm-Audio for a demo. Make an appointment and come listen to them.
