General: The Borresen 05 SSE (SSE = Silver Supreme Edition) is the largest loudspeaker in the '0-series' from Borresen Acoustics. The Borresen 05 SSE delivers an unparalleled musical experience that stays with you. It is a large loudspeaker with a sleek and beautiful design. The SSE version is the most expensive and finest version of the 05.

Technology: The Borresen 05 SSE has a very thoughtful design. The cabinet is made by Sino Factory, a Danish manufacturer. The black baffle is HDF and features a clean, screwless design. The drivers and crossovers are manufactured in-house by Borresen. The drivers and tweeter used are unique. The dipole planar tweeter is made from a special type of foil and has a moving mass of only 0.01 grams, driven by a fast and extremely powerful Super-Neodymium N52 magnet. The tweeter is housed in its own compartment in the cabinet, which is vented through two ventilation openings on the side and one port on the rear. The four 8" and two 4.5" cones consist of a 4-millimeter thick 'Nomex Core' design with two layers of non-woven carbon fiber from the Japanese manufacturer 'Toray', a high-tech manufacturer that also produces components for Formula 1 race cars and the aerospace industry. Like the tweeter, the cones are driven by a Super-Neodymium N52 magnet. The combination of a light moving mass and powerful N52 Neodymium drive results in extremely fast acceleration of the units, providing rapid sound reproduction. The materials used create extremely low self-inductance, which minimizes distortion and resonance. The Borresen 05 SSE is an open system, but through clever use of diffusers at the bass port, the bass port does not emit large sound waves with high energy toward the wall. Instead, the sound waves are dispersed and reduced, resulting in reduced energy output from the bass port. This allows you to place the Borresen 05 SSE closer to the rear wall than you might expect. However, space around the speakers is beneficial for sound quality. In our opinion, the Borresen 05 SSE is not really suitable for compact rooms. Ohm-Audio BV recommends nice large spaces, from 30m² to 100m² for these powerful loudspeakers.

Versions: There are 3 versions available of the Borresen 05

- The standard 05. This features T2S isolators between the cabinet and base plate.

- The Cryo Edition. This version has the same construction as the standard version. However, the drivers and crossover components are cryogenically treated. The components are cooled to -196 degrees Celsius over 24 hours, remain at this temperature for 24 hours, then are brought back to room temperature over 24 hours. The entire process takes 72 hours. The internal molecular structure changes through this process, and stress in the materials is relieved. Additionally, the conductivity of the metal is increased by 6-8% and inductance is reduced by 6-8%. The result is more transparent, direct, and detailed sound reproduction.

- The Silver Supreme Edition (this version). This version is equivalent to the Cryo version, but features hand-cast and CNC-machined pure silver induction rings in the drivers. These dramatically change the driver properties in a very positive way. The inductance is so much lower that distortion is 40% lower. The Silver Supreme Edition versions sound extraordinary in a positive sense.

Listening: The Borresen 05 SSE sounds like no other loudspeaker. So controlled, so spatial, and so refined and free of resonance, at any volume. It immediately becomes clear that we are dealing with a very special loudspeaker. The reproduction is very precise and realistic, yet at the same time there is an enormous sense of calm to it all. You are immediately placed in the space where the performers are playing, whether it be a small studio or a large hall or even a stadium. The Borresen 05 SSE captures the atmosphere with great accuracy. The Borresen 05 SSE can play quite loud, and even at the highest volumes, the sound image remains stable and pleasant to listen to. In addition to high volumes, you can of course also enjoy the Borresen 05 SSE very well at low volumes. Due to the very low moving mass of the ultra-light tweeter and midrange/woofers, you can hear every detail and see a spatial image even with quiet music at room volume. The Borresen 05 SSE takes another step forward in terms of musical experience, bass impact, and spatial imaging compared to the Borresen 01, 02, and 03.
