EN.
General: The Magnepan 2.7 is the latest creation from Magnepan. It is a model positioned between the smaller MG1.7 and the larger MG 3.7. This is the i-version, the somewhat more relaxed-sounding version of the upgraded 2.7x.

Technical: The Magnepan 2.7i is a 3-way floor-standing magnetostatic speaker. It stands 180cm tall, but is considerably narrower than its larger sibling, the Magnepan 3.7i/3.7X. The Magnepan 2.7i uses, like the larger Magnepan models, a true ribbon tweeter for the high frequencies. The pure ribbon is not a ribbon glued to mylar foil, but a pure ribbon freely suspended in the air. This makes it much lighter, and therefore faster and more precise. This really sets it apart from the MG1.7i etc. Now people who don't have the space for a large and wide MG3.7 or MG20.7 can also enjoy the finest high tones that Magnepan has to offer.

Listening: The new Magnepan 2.7i is a very special speaker with a distinctive sound. This new 2.7i sounds like a 3.7i, but with slightly lighter and faster bass reproduction. For orchestral power, the 3.7i certainly goes a bit further, but the difference is not that great. The bass reproduction is extremely tight and musical, and what is also appreciated is that the Magnepan 2.7i doesn't try to produce more bass than is possible from its panel. This means the bass reproduction is always in balance and never becomes muddy. The midtones and high tones are fantastic, and the air around the instruments is excellent. It's remarkable how easily the Magnepan 2.7i places music in the room and how clean, intelligible and resonance-free everything sounds. Not only is the sound technically very good, it is also highly musical, sitting still becomes a difficult proposition when listening to this new Magnepan 2.7i. The Magnepan 2.7i can be described as a somewhat more relaxed-sounding 2.7x. The 2.7x goes further in definition, openness and dynamics. Ohm-Audio BV has both in stock so they can be compared.
