General: The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is the large floor-standing speaker from Sonus Faber's Lumina series, built solidly and simply with a sleek and elegant design. The crossover filter in the Amator version is upgraded compared to the standard version. The front panel also now features a luxurious finish.

Technical Details: The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is finished to the highest standard of Sonus Faber. Only natural materials are used for the cabinet and drivers. The cabinet itself is a rectangular enclosure finished on all sides with leather. The front panel is available in different finishes: Rosewood, Walnut, or Wengé. The tweeter, midrange driver, and woofers are also made from natural materials; the two 6.5 inch woofers and 6 inch midrange driver are paper composite, and the tweeter is an iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) 29mm Kurtmüller silk dome tweeter, also used in the higher Sonetto series from Sonus Faber, as is the 6 inch midrange driver found in the Sonetto series. The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator distinguishes itself from the Lumina III not only because of its size, but also because in the Lumina V Amator the tweeter and midrange driver are housed in a separate compartment in the cabinet. This reduces the tweeter and midrange driver's exposure to internal cabinet resonance caused by the woofers, resulting in cleaner, more stable, and more beautiful reproduction of the midrange and high frequencies. Surrounding both the tweeter and midrange driver, as well as the woofers, is a soft material that reduces radiation to the sides, with an attractive chrome ring around it that is purely for design purposes. The overall appearance is simply stunning. The bass reflex port of the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is located on the bottom, making the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator very easy to position, even if you place them close to the rear wall.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is a very special floor-standing speaker. The Lumina V Amator is somewhat larger in size than the Lumina III, but it is not an excessively large speaker. The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator fits beautifully into a room thanks to its sleek, minimalist, and above all elegant design. The room is filled with music in a very high-quality manner. The bass is beautifully deep, tight, and well-defined; it extends even deeper than the Lumina III and the monitor speakers from the Lumina series, the Lumina I and Lumina II. The bass is also more controlled and smoother thanks to the more spacious cabinet. The treble and midrange sound more refined and detailed than the other models in the Lumina series thanks to the separate compartment for the tweeter and midrange driver. You can truly hear the Sonus Faber character in the Lumina V Amator. This means you get a beautiful and spacious soundstage with naturally sounding voices and instruments with subtle warm undertones. The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is also rhythmically excellent; the sound is fast and open, all details are clearly audible, and the separation of multiple voices or instruments is very distinct. In short, the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator articulates excellently and lets you enjoy the entire recording and everything that happens within it. The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator sounds exciting, engaging, and intriguing without ever crossing the irritation threshold or causing listening fatigue. The sound is beautifully balanced, meaning nothing dominates and nothing is given too much or too little, and that is very pleasant to listen to.

Conclusion: The Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator is the ideal floor-standing speaker for people who want high-end sound with an elegant design without having to pay an absolute premium price. Do not base your opinion on the favorable price of the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator; instead, come and listen to the magnificent and high-quality sound that these special floor-standing speakers can deliver. Especially for the money you pay for these hand-built Italian speakers, there is little to no competition with similar, let alone better, performance.
