General: Floor-standing version of the Sonus Faber Electa Amator III

Technology: The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is a floor-standing speaker made of solid walnut wood. It is the cabinet with the longest pieces of solid wood ever produced by Sonus Faber. The wood has been dried with great care for many years and attached with special adhesive. Walnut wood is heavy, strong, very dense and resonates extremely little. The standard finish is walnut wood color, but for a 20% additional charge, the Maxima Amator can also be supplied in a Graphite finish. The speaker units are the same as in the Electa Amator III, yet the Maxima Amator sounds different. The cabinet volume is much larger, which provides a purer and smoother bass progression. But the biggest difference is the filter. It has now become a Single Wiring filter with entirely new techniques. The components in the filter are also different. The air coils are extremely large, and they are made of litz wire instead of solid core. The highly sophisticated filter is housed in a separate, vibration-free enclosure, and it is even visible. It sits behind glass, right next to the connections. The tweeter itself is the top-model tweeter found in Sonus Faber's most expensive speakers. A neodymium-driven silk dome with a wooden resonance chamber. It is a truly sublime tweeter, one of the best on the market. The bass/midrange driver is a 180mm unit, driven by a large conventional magnet, because they wanted extremely smooth and pure midrange reproduction. The crossover frequency is low, at 2100 Hz. The base of the Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is made of dark solid natural stone. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator has been a passion project for Sonus Faber, but the listening result is rock solid.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is a unique speaker. Like the Electa Amator III, this is a special speaker. You feel at home right away. The sound is open, soft, and also fresh. But what particularly stands out is the enormous naturalness. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is not a speaker you have to break in for 1000 hours before you can enjoy it; it sounds great right from the start. Actually, just as it should. Compared to the Electa Amator III, the Sonus Faber Maxima Amator sounds more mature, and the bass is deeper and better defined. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator can also play quite loud.
