General: The Platina series is the best equipment line the English brand Quad has to offer. The equipment in the Platina series is larger, heavier, more powerful and even better finished than the already excellent retro 3-series and the modern Artera series from Quad. The Quad Platina series consists of 3 devices: the Quad Platina Integrated integrated amplifier with built-in DAC, the Quad Platina Stream network player with digital and analog outputs and finally the Quad Platina CDT digital CD transport.

Technical Details: The Quad Platina Integrated is a very robustly built amplifier. The chassis is extremely solidly constructed and internally only high-quality components are used with a very generous linear power supply featuring a large toroidal transformer. The Quad Platina Integrated weighs no less than 17.1 kg. Besides being a powerful amplifier with 2 x 200 Watts at 8 Ohms and even 2 x 300 Watts at 4 Ohms, the Quad Platina Integrated is also an extremely versatile device. It features an excellent built-in ESS Sabre ES9038PRO DAC with various digital inputs such as Coax RCA, Toslink Optical, USB-C and even HDMI ARC for televisions. On the Coax and Toslink input, PCM signals up to high-res 24bit/192kHz can be converted, and on the USB-C input, PCM signals up to 32bit/768kHz as well as DSD formats up to DSD512 can be converted. This allows you to play virtually all digital formats via the DAC in the Platina Integrated. In addition, there is a choice of both balanced and unbalanced analog inputs. The Quad Platina Integrated also features an excellent built-in phono stage, which can be used for both MM and MC cartridges. And finally, there is also an excellent sounding headphone amplifier included.

The amplifier is a Dual Mono class A/B design, meaning separate circuits for the right channel and left channel. This amplifier was designed from the ground up over a period of 5 years. Every configuration and component in the Quad Platina Integrated has been selected not only based on measurements, but also by ear to achieve the best and most musical end result. The capacitors are particularly special, as they were designed and manufactured in collaboration with German manufacturer Würth Elektronik specifically for the Quad Platina Integrated. Due to the Dual Mono design, the signal path between the separate power supply circuits and the transistors, and between the transistors and speaker outputs is very short. This results in low inductance, low noise floor and very direct access to the amplifier's power for dynamic and clean reproduction.

Display: The display on the Quad Platina Integrated also deserves praise. It is a clearly readable, intuitive and modern-looking display with multiple functions. It shows volume control, file format and input selection, but also gives you the option to display VU meters in different styles. You have various options with the Quad Platina Integrated, for example you can have all file formats upsampled to PCM 352.8kHz or 384kHz for a more refined sound if you wish, and settings like this can be easily found in the comprehensive yet clear menu on the beautiful display of the Quad Platina Integrated.

Sound: The Quad Platina Integrated clearly distinguishes itself from the already excellent but more affordable 3-series and Artera series from Quad. Not only in build quality and size, but sonically this Quad Platina Integrated goes much further in terms of soundstaging, detail, ease and dynamics. The presented soundstage is enormous and refined, and the placement of what happens in the soundstage feels natural and realistic. The music is presented tangibly and engagingly and the power of the Quad Platina Integrated seems endless when playing louder, even with speakers of average to lower efficiency. The bass goes deep and is powerful, well-present but never dominant. The sound is simply complete, everything included, without any flaws. Not too much of anything and not too little. It is not only the build quality and durability, but also the musicality and fun factor that makes the Quad Platina Integrated an ideal, versatile and very musical option with an excellent price/quality ratio.
