General : Excellently built and very analog-sounding digital amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics from Denmark. The Aavik U-580 is the flagship model of the U-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The Aavik U-580 is the model above the U-180 and the U-280 from Aavik Acoustics.

Technology : The very advanced technology in the Aavik amplifiers is unique. Aavik manufactures digital amplifiers with an analog heart. The waveform is modulated with a sine wave, which provides much finer reproduction than triangle modulation. The damping is high and the control over the speakers is optimal. The power supply is very generously dimensioned and always calculated for the task. Another important aspect is the natural housing. The enclosure of the Aavik U-580 is the most unique of all models in the U-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The enclosure itself is made of a natural composite material, so no hard and cold aluminum. On the top you will find a beautiful titanium cross which, besides looking good, also controls the resonance of the cabinet resulting in a more natural and slightly warmer sound than the models without the titanium 'X' integrated into the top panel. What also sets the Aavik U-580 apart from the other models in the U-Series is that the inside of the U-580 is made of solid copper, which reduces hysteresis to an absolute minimal amount, which sonically ensures that the music has more energy, power and liveliness. Aavik Acoustics has put much work into the resonance-free design of the enclosure, and this translates directly back into sound quality. The Aavik U-580 has a very generously dimmable display on the front that reads well from the listening position and a very fine volume control. Everything has been thought of. You can optionally place the Darkz Resonance Control resonance dampers from Ansuz Acoustics under the Aavik U-580 in case you don't have an anti-resonance HiFi cabinet. If you have multiple Aavik Acoustics components, they can be stacked using ceramic or titanium balls on which a Darkz Resonator from Ansuz Acoustics can then be placed. This way multiple components take up minimal space without affecting each other through vibrations. The technical construction is very advanced and makes use of various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. For example, the Aavik U-580 contains extensive Noise Reduction, the most extensive Noise Reduction of all models in the U-Series. The Aavik U-580 has no less than 72 Active Tesla Coils and 232 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils extract various electromagnetic radiation from the air and in the enclosure and ensure a clean and undistorted music signal within the amplifier. There are also 4 Anti Aerial Resonance Coils in the Aavik U-580. Anti Aerial Resonance Coils are a kind of wire wrapped around the conductors from the output of the power stage to the speaker terminals. These reduce the last bit of contamination that would ultimately go to the speakers. The digital electronics have no less than 11 Dither circuits. Power consumption is very favorable. The Aavik U-580 consumes only 0.5 watts in standby, and in music mode consumption is 50 watts Idle. The Aavik U-580 contains a high-quality DAC. The DAC supports PCM formats up to 32bit/192kHz and the USB input can also support DSD formats up to DSD128, and the DAC in the Aavik U-580 also has an MQA decoder on board. Technically, the amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are the cream of the crop among digital amplifiers, and not only that. They are in our opinion the first class D amplifiers with a 100% analog character without a trace of harshness and where, even after prolonged listening, there is no listening fatigue.

Sound : What we are used to from class D amplifiers is a tight dynamics, and a neutral and rhythmic sound. Yet there is often missing a piece of musicality, something that not only says: "wow, that sounds impressive", but also something that invites you to keep listening. At some point after getting used to a certain sound, the "wow factor" is gone, what must remain is music, because that is what it is ultimately about. The amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are so far the first class D amplifiers where we feel that we are not only listening to something that sounds technically optimal, but also very musical and gives a captivating, intriguing and especially beautiful sound. The Aavik U-580 first of all just sounds very nice. Relaxed, spatial, and an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik U-580 sounds transparent, dynamic and lets you hear everything, but there is also a certain peace & comfort hanging over the sound. The sound is therefore perfectly balanced and the overall picture is simply right. In terms of dynamics, the Aavik U-580 may well go further than most class A (Tube) amplifiers, but that is not ultimately what it is only about. It is about sound quality, and to what extent an amplifier is capable of conveying emotions. And conveying emotions is what Aavik amplifiers excel at. This Aavik U-580 is pure emotion. We are very enthusiastic about the entire Aavik Acoustics range and the Aavik U-580 is by far the most high-end member of the family.

Conclusion : the Aavik Acoustics U-580 is a unique integrated amplifier with a generous output power (2x300 Watts continuous) and a formidable built-in DAC and fantastic sound quality. The Aavik U-580 sounds by far the most detailed, defined, organic and spatial of the U-Series. The operation is very simple and extremely fine, the format is compact and the weight is easy to handle. We don't know of any other amplifier with so much power in such a compact, light and especially beautiful enclosure that sounds so incredibly good.
