General : Excellently built and very analog-sounding digital amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics from Denmark. The Aavik U-580 is the top model of the U-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The Aavik U-580 is the model above the U-180 and the U-280 from Aavik Acoustics.

Technology : The very advanced technology in the Aavik amplifiers is unique. Aavik makes digital amplifiers with an analog heart. The waveform is modulated with a sine wave, and this provides much finer reproduction than triangle modulation. The damping is high and control over the speakers is optimal. The power supply is very generously dimensioned and always calculated for the task. Also an important aspect is the natural enclosure. The enclosure of the Aavik U-580 is the most unique of all models in the U-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The enclosure itself is made of a natural composite material, so no hard and cold aluminum. On top you'll find a beautiful titanium cross which, besides looking good, also controls the resonance of the cabinet resulting in a more natural and somewhat warmer sound than the models without the titanium 'X' incorporated in the top plate. What also makes the Aavik U-580 stand out above the other models in the U-Series is that the inside of the U-580 is made of solid copper, this reduces hysteresis to an absolute minimum amount, which sonically ensures that the music has more energy, power and liveliness. Aavik Acoustics has invested considerable effort in the resonance-free design of the enclosure, and that translates directly into sound quality. The Aavik U-580 has a very generous dimmable display on the front which is easy to read from the listening position and a very fine volume control. Everything has been thought of. Under the Aavik U-580 you can optionally place the Darkz Resonance Control resonance dampers from Ansuz Acoustics under the amplifier in case you don't have an anti-resonance HiFi cabinet. If you have multiple Aavik Acoustics devices, they are stackable via ceramic or titanium balls on which a Darkz Resonator from Ansuz Acoustics can then be placed. This way multiple devices take up minimal space without affecting each other through vibrations. The technical design is very advanced and makes use of various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. For example, the Aavik U-580 contains extensive Noise Reduction, the most extensive Noise Reduction of all models in the U-Series. The Aavik U-580 features no fewer than 72 Active Tesla Coils and 232 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils extract various electromagnetic radiation from the air and in the enclosure and ensure a pure and undistorted music signal inside the amplifier. There are also 4 Anti Aerial Resonance Coils in the Aavik U-580. Anti Aerial Resonance Coils are a kind of vein wound around the conductors from the output of the power stage to the speaker connections. These reduce the last bit of pollution that would ultimately go to the speakers. The digital electronics have no fewer than 11 Dither circuits. Power consumption is very favorable. The Aavik U-580 consumes only 0.5 watts in standby, and in music mode consumption is 50 watts Idle. The Aavik U-580 contains a high-quality DAC. The DAC supports PCM formats up to 32bit/192kHz and the USB input can also support DSD formats up to DSD128, also the DAC in the Aavik U-580 has an MQA decoder on board. Technically the amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are the crème de la crème among digital amplifiers, and not only that. They are in our view the first Class D amplifiers with 100% analog character without a trace of hardness and where even after long listening sessions there is no listener fatigue.

Sound : What we're used to from Class D amplifiers is tight dynamics and a neutral and rhythmic sound. Yet often something of musicality is missing, something that not only says: "wow, that sounds impressive", but also something that invites you to keep listening. At some point after you get used to a certain sound, the "wow factor" is gone, what must remain is music, because that's what it's ultimately about. The amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are so far the first Class D amplifiers where we feel that we are not only listening to something that sounds technically optimal, but also very musical and delivers an engaging, intriguing and especially beautiful sound. The Aavik U-580 first and foremost sounds really nice. Relaxed, spatial, and an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik U-580 sounds transparent, dynamic and lets you hear everything, but there's also a certain peace & comfort hanging over the sound. The sound is thus perfectly balanced and the overall picture simply works. Dynamically speaking, the Aavik U-580 may well go further than most Class A (tube) amplifiers, but that's not ultimately what it's only about. It's about sound quality and to what extent an amplifier is able to convey emotions. And conveying emotions is where the Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik U-580 is pure emotion unvarnished. We are very enthusiastic about the entire Aavik Acoustics range and the Aavik U-580 is by far the most high-end member of the family.

Conclusion : the Aavik Acoustics U-580 is a unique integrated amplifier with generous output power (2x300 Watts continuous) and a formidable built-in DAC and fantastic sound quality. Operation is very simple and beautifully refined, the format is compact and the weight is easy to handle.
