General : Excellently built and very analogue-sounding digital amplifier from Aavik Acoustics in Denmark. The Aavik I-180 is the entry-level model in the I-X80 series from Aavik Acoustics.

Technology : The highly advanced technology in the Aavik Acoustics amplifiers is unique. Aavik Acoustics makes digital amplifiers with an analog heart and focuses largely on suppressing noise, cabinet resonances and distortion in a way that does not affect the purity of the audio signal. The waveform is modulated with a sine wave, and this results in a much finer reproduction than triangle modulation. The damping is high and the control over the loudspeakers is optimal. The power supply is very generous, powerful & stable and always designed to do its job. Another important aspect is the natural enclosure. The enclosure is made of a natural composite material. No hard and cold aluminum: Aavik Acoustics has reduced the amount of aluminum used to an absolute minimum, limited to only what is necessary for cooling. Aavik Acoustics has put a lot of work into the resonance freedom of the enclosure, and that translates directly into sound quality. This is very important. Too much damping, or damping that is not applied properly, can also work counterproductively. The Aavik I-180 has a very generous dimmable display that is easy to read from the listening position, and a very pleasant volume control. Everything has been thought of. Under the Aavik I-180 you can optionally place the Darkz Resonance Control resonance dampers from Ansuz Acoustics under the amplifier, in case you do not have an anti-resonance hi-fi cabinet. If you have multiple Aavik Acoustics devices, they are stackable by means of ceramic or titanium balls, on top of which a Darkz Resonator from Ansuz Acoustics can then be placed. In this way, multiple devices take up minimal space without influencing each other through vibrations. The technical construction is very advanced and makes use of various technologies from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. For example, the Aavik I-180 contains extensive Noise Reduction. The Aavik I-180 has 36 Active Tesla Coils, and 96 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils extract various electromagnetic radiation from the air and in the enclosure, and ensure an uncontaminated and undistorted music signal inside the amplifier. There are also 4 Anti Aerial Resonance Coils in the Aavik I-180. Anti Aerial Resonance Coils are a kind of wire wound around the conductors running from the output of the output stage to the loudspeaker terminals. These reduce the last bit of contamination that would otherwise travel towards the loudspeakers. The digital electronics has no less than 5 Analog Dither Circuitry. Power consumption is very favorable. The Aavik I-180 uses only 0.5 watts on standby, and in music mode the consumption is 50 watts idle. Technically, the Aavik Acoustics amplifiers are the crème de la crème among digital amplifiers, and not only that. In our opinion, they are the first class D amplifiers with a 100% analog character, without a trace of harshness, and that do not cause listening fatigue even after long listening sessions.

Sound : What we are used to from class D amplifiers is tight dynamics and a neutral, rhythmic sound. Yet they often lack a bit of musicality, something that doesn't just say : “wow, that sounds impressive”, but also something that invites you to keep listening. At some point, after getting used to a certain sound, the “wow factor” is gone, and what should remain is music, because that is ultimately what it's all about. The amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are so far the first class D amplifiers where we feel that we are not just listening to something that sounds technically optimal, but that is also very musical and gives a fascinating, intriguing and above all beautiful sound. The Aavik I-180 first of all simply sounds very pleasant. Relaxed, spacious, and an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is conveyed well to the listener. The Aavik I-180 sounds transparent, dynamic and reveals everything, but there is also a certain calm & comfort over the sound. The sound is therefore perfectly balanced and the overall picture simply adds up. So in terms of dynamics, the Aavik I-180 may go further than most class A (tube) amplifiers, but that is not what it's ultimately all about. It is about sound quality, and to what extent an amplifier is able to convey emotions. And conveying emotions is where Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik I-180 is pure emotion through and through. We are very enthusiastic about the entire Aavik range and the I-180 is a full-fledged member of the family.

This Aavik I-180 comes from the first owner and is in new condition, and it is also supplied including the original packaging and the new Aavik Aluminium remote control.
