General: The McIntosh MSA5500 is the latest amplifier from McIntosh, from America. It is an all-in-one streaming amplifier, making it ideal for people who want exceptional sound reproduction in a single unit. It is also ideal for people who want to bring the striking look of McIntosh equipment into their home without having to set up multiple huge, heavy cabinets.

Technology: The McIntosh MSA5500 is a first-class all-rounder. The quality is what you would expect from McIntosh: solid and reliable. The amplifier section is powerful, and with its 160 Watts per channel at 4 Ohms, the MSA5500 can handle many loudspeakers. The recognizable blue VU meters on the front let you see precisely how much power you have left. The digital section is handled by an excellent streamer, and the D/A converter is a Quad Balanced 32-bit DAC that offers a very high dynamic range and low distortion. This DAC can convert PCM signals up to 24bit/192kHz via the SPDIF Coax and Toslink inputs, PCM signals up to 32bit/384kHz via the USB-B input, and even DSD signals up to DSD256. Finally, the McIntosh MSA5500 also features an excellent phono stage for turntables using an MM cartridge. In addition, the McIntosh MSA5500 is designed with McIntosh's technologies for protecting the amplifier and your loudspeakers. It uses McIntosh Power Guard and Sentry Monitor technology. The Power Guard monitors the output signal and makes small adjustments to the signal when necessary to prevent clipping, so you are much less likely to blow your loudspeakers because there is less distortion in the signal. The Sentry Monitor is a fuseless protection that shuts down the output stage as soon as too much current flows through it, such as when you play far too loud or when a short circuit or overvoltage occurs. The heatsinks developed by McIntosh keep the transistors cool and ensure that the warm-up time is shorter.
