General : Excellently built and very analog-sounding digital amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics from Denmark. The Aavik U-180 is the entry-level model of the U-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The Aavik U-180 is the model below the U-280 and U-580 from Aavik Acoustics.

Technology : The highly advanced technology in Aavik amplifiers is unique. Aavik makes digital amplifiers with an analog heart. The waveform is modulated with a sine wave, which provides much finer reproduction than triangle modulation. The damping is high and control over the speakers is optimal. The power supply is very generously dimensioned and always calculated for the task at hand. Another important aspect is the natural enclosure. The enclosure is made from a natural composite material. No hard and cold aluminum. Aavik Acoustics has put a lot of effort into the resonance-free construction of the enclosure, and that translates directly into sound quality. This is very important. Too much damping or incorrectly applied damping can also have the opposite effect. The Aavik U-180 features a very generously dimmable display on the front that reads well from the listening position and a very fine volume control. Everything has been thought of. Under the Aavik U-180, you can optionally place the Darkz Resonance Control resonance dampers from Ansuz Acoustics if you do not have an anti-resonance HiFi cabinet. If you have multiple Aavik Acoustics devices, these are stackable using ceramic or titanium balls, with a Darkz Resonator from Ansuz Acoustics on top. This way, multiple devices take up minimal space without affecting each other through vibrations. The technical construction is very advanced and makes use of various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. The Aavik U-180 contains extensive Noise Reduction. The Aavik U-180 has 36 Active Tesla Coils and 88 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils remove various electromagnetic radiation from the air and inside the enclosure, ensuring a clean and undistorted music signal within the amplifier. There are also 4 Anti Aerial Resonance Coils in the Aavik U-180. Anti Aerial Resonance Coils are a kind of vein wound around the conductors from the output of the power stage to the speaker terminals. These reduce the last bit of pollution that would otherwise reach the speakers. The digital electronics feature no less than 5 Dither circuits. Power consumption is very favorable. The Aavik U-180 consumes only 0.5 watts in standby and 50 watts idle in music mode. The Aavik U-180 includes a high-quality DAC. The DAC supports PCM formats up to 32bit/192kHz and the USB input can also support DSD formats up to DSD128. The DAC in the Aavik U-180 also features an MQA decoder on board. Technically, Aavik Acoustics amplifiers are the cream of the crop among digital amplifiers, and not only that. They are, in our opinion, the first-class D amplifiers with a 100% analog character without a hint of harshness, and even after long listening sessions, no listener fatigue is induced.

Sound : What we are accustomed to from class D amplifiers is a tight dynamics and a neutral and rhythmic sound. Yet often something is missing in musicality, something that not only says: "wow, that sounds impressive", but also something that invites you to keep listening. At a certain point, after getting used to a certain sound, the "wow factor" disappears, what must remain is music, because that is what it is all about. The Aavik U-180 first and foremost sounds very nice. Relaxed, spacious, and an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik U-180 sounds transparent, dynamic and lets everything be heard, but there is also a certain peace & comfort that hangs over the sound. The sound is therefore perfectly balanced and the overall picture simply adds up. So in terms of dynamics, the Aavik U-180 may well go further than most class A (Tube) amplifiers, but that is not ultimately all it is about. It is about sound quality and the extent to which an amplifier is able to convey emotions. And conveying emotions is where Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik U-180 is pure emotion.
