General : A heavy, very solidly and robustly built power amplifier from Accuphase from Japan. Known for refined and natural sound and extremely durable equipment.

Technical Details : The Accuphase A-36 is a class A power amplifier with Mosfet transistors in a push pull configuration for optimal control of your speakers. The Accuphase A-36 is fully Dual Mono constructed, with 6 transistors used at the output stage per channel, 3 for the push and 3 for the pull. With a switch on the rear you can use the amplifier as Dual Mono but you can also use the Accuphase A-36 in bridge mode, if you have a 2nd Accuphase A-36 you can increase the power to approximately 3 times the power of a single stereo A-36. Through the speaker connections A & B you have the option to completely separate the high and low for example Bi-Wire speakers. The power supply is a linear power supply with an enormous transformer, and 2 very large capacitors of very high quality are also used in the power supply. Everything on and in this Accuphase A-36 is made from top quality components and materials. The housing is also heavily finished with Accuphase's characteristic champagne/gold front panel.

Listening : The Accuphase A-36 sounds as you would expect from an Accuphase class A amplifier. Very spatial, natural, refined and with lots of body. Don't let the power on paper fool you, the Accuphase A-36 can easily drive even very difficult speakers. Of course you should not expect to blow the roof off your house with speakers with difficult efficiency, but that's not what the Accuphase was made for, the Accuphase A-36 is for people who want to hear as much detail as possible from their favorite recordings in an effortless and accessible way. The bass is full and pleasant and totally not overpowering. The midrange is velvety to the ear, but absolutely not woolly. The high tones are rich in detail and refined dynamics without harshness. The sound of the Accuphase A-36 is simply beautiful in balance and matches very pleasantly with many types of speakers.
