The Avalon Radian HC is one of the first designs by Neil Patel, the current owner of Avalon Acoustics USA. The Radian HC is the bigger brother of the Eclipse. It is a substantial 3-way loudspeaker, equipped with the best units available at the time. The Radian HC is a fully sealed loudspeaker. The major advantage of a fully sealed system is its unparalleled bass reproduction. It cannot get purer than this. A bass reflex system may produce more low end, but the bass is not as well controlled as in a sealed system. The woofers themselves, 2 per cabinet, are honeycomb units, which Avalon still uses today. The midrange driver is also a honeycomb unit, in its own sealed enclosure. The tweeter is originally a titanium dome tweeter, but in this Radian HC set the dome has been replaced with a silk dome, a modification you see quite often. The tweeter is therefore original, only the dome has been modified. This provides a very pure and somewhat softer reproduction of the high frequencies. The Radian HC is the High Current version of the standard Radian. The Radian HC has a different crossover for this reason, sounds better than the non-HC version, but does require a good and stable amplifier. In terms of sound, the Radian HC is a true Avalon, with an enormous soundstage, open and clear midrange reproduction, and a fresh and pure high end. The Radian HC can really play loud, but a powerful amplifier is required. The Radian HC has a tri-wire connection of solid silver. This Radian HC set is supplied with so-called listening fronts as extras. These are original Radian HC faceplates, but without the grille cloth. You can use them, but don't have to—the original fronts are included as well. The original boxes are also present. This Avalon Radian HC set is in excellent condition. One Radian HC is in excellent 8.5/10 condition, the other is in 7/10 condition due to minor damage. The finish of these Radians is the very expensive Walnut Cluster Burl.
