General : Very special 2-Way audiophile horn loudspeaker with high efficiency

Technical : The Blumenhofer Gran Gioia SE is a special version of the standard Blumenhofer Gran Gioia. This SE version is specially made for high-efficiency horn loudspeakers and tube enthusiasts in the Far East. But that doesn't diminish the fact that these speakers also sound fantastic here. This is a clear and immediately noticeable improvement over the standard Gran Gioia. This Gran Gioia SE is a 2-way loudspeaker with a very large wooden treble horn and a compression bass horn. The bass unit is a 38cm unit in a compression bass horn, and is reflex-assisted via an optimized reflex port at the bottom. The treble horn is also completely different from the horn of the standard Gran Gioia. The treble horn is twice as deep as the standard horn, and sounds distinctly different and better. This horn operates from a very low 850Hz, and the driver is a specially developed 1.4" titanium dome. Both the bass horn and the treble horn are made of 25mm birch plywood. No MDF. The loudspeaker terminals are WBT and the expensive Tellurium versions. The treble horn is fully adjustable, both in terms of tilt angle and phase. Furthermore, you can weaken the treble horn by 1 or 2 dB using a jumper. The Blumenhofer Gran Gioia SE stands on 3 spikes on outriggers, so the entire cabinet can be tilted. The adjustment screw is now at the front, instead of at the rear of the Gran Gioia MK1. It's truly old-school technology but built in a very modern way, and the acoustic result is truly astounding.

Listening : Anyone who thinks of a horn loudspeaker as having a very direct sound, with considerable horn coloration and poor soundstaging is completely wrong about the Blumenhofer Gran Gioia SE. The sound of the Gran Gioia SE is only slightly more direct than an excellent dynamic loudspeaker like the Magico S3 MK2, which we compared with the Gran Gioia. In terms of resolution and purity, the Blumenhofer easily keeps pace with the S3 MK2, and in terms of dynamics the Blumenhofer goes considerably further. It's not that everything sounds more dynamic, but rather that when a drum strike or trumpet solo comes, it appears entirely compression-free in the room all at once. The sound is very pure and loose, and the bass reproduction is beautiful, round and fast. An enormous 3D bubble appears right in front of you, and the nice thing is that you don't even need to turn up the volume much. Even at whisper-quiet levels, all details come through 1:1. Remarkable. What is also very nice is that the Gran Gioia SE has an efficiency of 99dB at 1 watt. Ideal for small amplifiers and tube amplifiers. We drove the Gran Gioia SE with the excellent Bricasti M15, a transistor amplifier with a velvety character and the result is astounding. But also with a simple yet very good Amare Musica Entropy Diamond tube amplifier it sounds beautiful and dynamic. With a KR Audio SDI35 it really comes alive. In small rooms, but also certainly in very large rooms the Gran Gioia SE performs astoundingly well.
