General : The Esoteric K-05Xs is the successor to the Esoteric K-05X and the predecessor to the Esoteric K-05XD. A technically outstanding CD/SACD player with an excellent built-in D/A Converter.

Technology : The Esoteric K-05Xs is built to technically excellent standards, as you would expect from a Japanese CD/SACD player. The K-05Xs uses the highly precise and reliable VRDS-NEO VMK-5 transport mechanism developed by Esoteric. However, the most remarkable feature of the Esoteric K-05Xs is its fully dual mono 34bit D/A Converter. This DAC is largely derived from the DAC used in the expensive Esoteric Grandioso K1. Per channel, 4 D/A Converters are employed in a parallel differential configuration, which ensures a highly linear signal and extremely low distortion. The Esoteric K-05Xs combines multiple 32bit DAC chipsets with a 34bit processor; 34bit processing delivers much higher resolution and a more refined signal that comes closer to analog. Finally, the signal passes through an advanced Esoteric-HCLD (High Current Line Driver) buffer circuit also used in Esoteric's flagship models. This buffer circuit ensures that the analog signal is output in a fast, dynamic and powerful manner to transmit the tempo and rhythm of the music signal as optimally and accurately as possible. The power supply in the Esoteric K-05Xs is stable, quiet and fast. You have various playback and upsampling options available. You can choose to play PCM signals from 2x to 16x (768kHz), or you have the option to convert PCM signals to DSD512. What is most optimal depends purely on a combination of personal taste and the synergy of the system to which the K-05Xs is connected. The Esoteric K-05Xs has 3 digital inputs: optical, coax RCA and a USB-B input. The USB input can be used to connect streamers and accepts all PCM formats and DSD formats up to DSD512.

Listening : The Esoteric K-05Xs is a precision instrument; technically the sound is excellent. That does not mean the sound is purely technical or analytical; the presentation of the Esoteric K-05Xs is very refined and musical. The music reproduction is clean and clear, all information contained in the recording is presented on a silver platter. The Esoteric K-05Xs is absolutely not a device made for effect chasing. It is a highly musical CD/SACD player and DAC designed to be used as an outstanding source to get the most out of high-end audio systems.
