Technical : The history of the LS 3/5A begins with the BBC, which wanted a sealed compact minimonitor 50 years ago with a specific impedance, namely 15 ohms. This was to put minimal load on amplifiers in the field. The Rogers LS 3/5A was born. For this loudspeaker, a sealed birch wood cabinet was built with 2 BBC Licensed KEF units, the B110 woofer and the T27 tweeter. The crossover consists of transformers, the autoformers, and even the front baffle was specified with respect to the damping and radiation pattern of the loudspeaker. Currently, multiple brands are rebuilding the LS 3/5A, but there is only one true 15 Ohms version, identical to the original, and that is the Falcon LS 3/5A. The Falcon LS 3/5A is the only LS 3/5 with the autoformer 15 ohms filter, due to the fact that Falcon owns the rights to build this filter. The original designer Malcolm Jones also works for Falcon Acoustics. The Falcon LS 3/5A 15 Ohm is still one of the finest minimonitors in the world. Even with very small tube amplifiers you can achieve considerable dynamics and a huge soundstage. The loudspeaker terminals are the latest Rhodium connectors for spades and bananas
