General: The Magnepan 20.7 is the largest Magnetostat from Magnepan.

Technology: It is a 3-way panel with push-pull membranes, meaning magnets on both sides. This provides completely linear membrane reproduction. The 150cm long ribbon tweeter is unique of its kind, and one of the very best units in the world for reproducing high tones. Like all other Magnepans, the Magnepan 20.7 is a dipole speaker, meaning it radiates forward and backward. Some distance from the rear wall is therefore essential. The radiation pattern in the bass is 8-lobed, which has the advantage that you can direct the bass energy. This is not possible with a conventional speaker.

Sound: Much has been written about the sound quality of Magnepan, and it is all true. You won't find anything better than the 20.7, even if you place speakers costing a thousand euros next to it. More and heavier bass, okay, more sound pressure, okay, but more resolution, imaging and musical insight, no, not that. Magnepans are all very musical, and any form of resonance is simply absent. No harsh voices, no cone distortion, no cabinet vibrations, none of that. The Magnepan 20.7 has no cones and no cabinet either. That is also why the Magnepan 20.7 is substantial, which is necessary for deep and pure bass reproduction.
