Technology : The cabinet of the Monitor Audio PL300 II is extremely heavy and resonance-free. Design has not been compromised either; the exterior is finished with matched veneer of real wood, which is then hand-coated and covered with 11 layers of high-gloss lacquer. After that, the entire unit is polished for a beautiful modern look that also appears very refined; the red is very smooth and completely unobtrusive. As if that weren't enough, the front is finished with the very luxurious Inglestone leather, which not only looks beautiful but also prevents excessive secondary radiation from the drivers at the front. With the Platinum Series 2, Monitor Audio has also introduced the MPD (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) tweeters, an extremely light and fast tweeter without distortion for smooth treble reproduction. The RDT units for the midrange and bass of the previous Monitor Audio Platinum series have also been improved; the new Monitor Audio Platinum Series 2 features RDT-II units. The RDT-II units are a composite 'sandwich' structure with ultra-thin layers bonded to a Nomex core. It is extremely light and rigid, allowing the RDT-II units to move at extremely high speed without flexing. The front of the units is made of C-CAM, which stands for 'Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium', a material that is stress-relieved beforehand. The rear of the units is made of woven carbon fiber material. According to Monitor Audio, these are the least distorting units they have ever made.
