General : The Aethos from British Rega is a highly skilled Class A/B amplifier with a power output of 125 Watts at 8 Ohm and 156 Watts at 6 Ohm. Notable is the dual-mono design of the amplifier and the pure Class A preamp stage. The headphone amplification is also a welcome addition. The clever circuit design and use of high-quality components ensure that the Rega Aethos makes few compromises, which benefits the reproduction. The sound character is controlled, spatial with a pleasant amount of body. The bass is nicely rounded and the treble is refined, certainly an amplifier that guarantees an enjoyable and interesting listening experience. Given the Class A/B design, the amplifier does produce a fair amount of heat. The recommendation is therefore not to place the Rega Aethos in a closed cabinet. This amplifier can be auditioned in our listening room and is ready for many more years of musical enjoyment!
