Thiel is a loudspeaker manufacturer from the USA with a number of very distinctive ideas. They focus on phase-accurate and dynamics-correct reproduction. Thiel therefore uses only 6db filters. This sets high demands on the units, which Thiel also manufactures itself. This Thiel CS-3.7 is the successor to the equally excellent Thiel CS-6, but clearly takes a step further. First the cabinet. This is made from a specially shaped wooden construction, with a cast aluminum top part, and a milled aluminum front where the speakers are mounted. The loudspeaker units used are also special. The bass section consists of a massive woofer driven by an enormous magnet. The cabinet itself of the CS-3.7 is sealed, but the bass is supported by a passive radiator. This provides more deep bass, without typical bass reflex distortion. But the most special unit is the midrange/tweeter unit. This is a coincident source point source speaker. The aluminum tweeter sits at the heart of the completely flat ribbed midrange driver. This ensures that all midrange and high tones come from 1 point, and are therefore always correct in phase. All in all, the Thiel CS-3.7 is an exceptional reproducer. Sound-wise, the distinctive technology translates into outstanding reproduction. The Thiel CS-3.7 sounds very open and fresh, and has a distinctive tight and pure bass reproduction. The speaker disappears completely during listening. The Thiel CS-3.7 is pleasant to the ear, and at the same time listening to it is always remarkable.
