General: The Elegan series is a new addition to the range of the British brand Quad. There are currently two models in the Elegan series, namely the Elegan 1 standmount loudspeaker and the Elegan 2 floor-standing loudspeaker. The Quad Elegan series is proof that good sound and beautiful finish don't have to be extremely expensive.

Technology: The design of the Quad Elegan 2 is simple and effective, but there is more engineering incorporated than the appearance suggests. The 125mm midrange driver and 2 x 165mm woofers have a cone made of Kevlar, a material that has repeatedly proven itself in the audio industry. Due to the low weight and high rigidity of Kevlar, distortion is low and music is reproduced tightly and honestly, but with a high musicality compared to, for example, certain metals such as aluminium. The tweeter is a 25mm fabric dome tweeter which, in combination with a waveguide, provides a very refined and balanced treble reproduction. The cabinet is made of high-density MDF that is internally braced, which braces provide low cabinet resonance and good internal air pressure dispersion. The cabinet is an open design and is therefore supported by a Quad Airflow™ bass reflex system consisting of two ports, these ports are specially designed by Quad to create optimal airflow with minimal turbulence. Also noteworthy are the easily removable magnetic grilles that provide a more neutral look as well as driver protection.

Listening: The Quad Elegan 2 sound not only larger and more mature, but also considerably more expensive than what they actually are. It's remarkable how Quad has managed to achieve such a musical and complete performance with a set of floor-standing loudspeakers under € 2000 per set. The Quad Elegan 2 has a neutral-warm character. Not too soft, but not too bare either; instead, the sound of the Elegan 2 is simply pleasant and comfortable to listen to, without sounding thickened or artificial. The midrange and treble are rich in detail and the loudspeaker's radiation pattern creates a soundstage in which you can really place yourself. The bass reproduction is truly powerful yet very controlled and musical. We have heard nothing in this price range that comes close to these Quad Elegan 2.

You can get by with many amplifiers with the Quad Elegan 2, but if you want a versatile and compact amplifier that sounds good with these speakers, we recommend the Quad 3 integrated amplifier with DAC, or the Quad Artera Solus Play all-in-one streaming amplifier. The Quad 33 + 303 amplifier set also performs wonders with these speakers. For those who prefer something more expressive, the Italian Lector Audio ZAX-70 also performs extremely well with these speakers. For those looking for a very affordable and compact all-in-one solution with the Elegan 2, the Quad Vena II Play is the perfect solution.

The Quad Elegan 2 floor-standing speakers are set up for demonstration at our showroom and can be auditioned free of obligation by appointment.
