General : Borresen Acoustics manufactures multiple speaker series: there is the excellent affordable X-series, above that the high-quality C-series, and above that sits the high-end T-series. But the M-series is the flagship reference series of Borresen Acoustics speakers. The M-series speakers are among the best of the best on the speaker market.

Technology : The Borresen M1 is technically one of the most exotic speakers on the market. The applied techniques and materials are unlike any other speaker manufacturer. Most large speaker manufacturers buy speaker units from suppliers, but Borresen manufactures their own drivers. The cabinet is made from a natural composite material and internally reinforced. The in-house made Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is housed in its own compartment in the cabinet, which is vented via a tube leading to the rear. The mid/bass driver is supported by a port on the rear; this port features 3 brackets that disperse the air coming from the bass port. The Borresen IronFree 5 Zirconium SSE mid/bass driver is unique in the world. First, there is the basket, which is an asymmetrical 3D-printed basket made of solid zirconium. This basket provides optimal stability and airflow for the mid/bass driver. Manufacturing just one such basket costs thousands of dollars in production costs. The magnets used are the most powerful neodymium magnets on the market, and no iron is used in the magnet system. Additionally, an in-house fabricated pure silver pole ring is used in the magnet system for the lowest possible inductance. The diaphragm of the mid/bass driver is made of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as kevlar) in honeycomb design in between. These 3 layers are firmly pressed together and secured with a small amount of epoxy. But the M-series have an additional layer on the cone, namely a thin layer of titanium that features a very fine and special coating layer, which Audio Group Denmark calls 'Supreme Coating'. This Supreme Coating is made from a base layer of zirconium, with a layer of tungsten on top and a layer of aluminum chromium nitride on top of that. This coating layer is applied to the titanium in a Hi-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) machine. All this effort and exotic materials are not without reason; the result is one of the most unique, stable, distortion-free, and musical drivers on the market. The Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is also unique and only found in Borresen Acoustics speakers. This tweeter is also manufactured in-house. The diaphragm of this tweeter weighs only a miniscule 0.01 gram, yet it is a strong material that can withstand a minor bump. Because the moving mass of this tweeter is so low, no energy can be stored in it, resulting in completely distortion-free reproduction.

The internal wiring is entirely Ansuz Acoustics D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring. This wiring consists of a copper core that is subsequently silver-plated and then even gold-plated, resulting in a unique, clean, and extremely musical sound. The speaker connections accept only banana plugs. Below the speaker connections, there is also a 14 Volt BNC input. This latter input is to power the active noise cancelling Tesla Coil techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics used in the Borresen M1. Two adapters are supplied with a set of M1s, but one can also choose to power this 14 Volt connection from an Ansuz Acoustics PowerBox model for the best results.

Stands and Isolation : The stylish stands are made from a composite material with a top plate and bottom plate featuring a sandwich design. These top and bottom plates consist of 2 layers of solid titanium with a layer of compact laminate in between. This design and the materials used provide excellent resonance management. For additional resonance control, a set of Borresen M1 comes with 6 pieces of Ansuz Darkz Z2 Signature isolators. The Darkz Z2S are isolators with solid zirconium discs with Ansuz Supreme Coating around them and an additional layer of zirconium on top, with tungsten balls between these discs. These Ansuz Darkz Z2S with a retail value of just over € 20.000,- for 6 pieces are placed between the top plate of the stand and the bottom of the speaker. Ansuz Darkz isolators can also be placed under the feet of the stands for the most optimal performance.

All in all, the Borresen M1 is one of the most exclusive speakers on the world market.

Listening : Listening to a Borresen speaker system is always a pleasure. Consistently you hear solid and deep bass reproduction, and extremely low distortion. The sound also comes completely free from the speakers. You can place the Borresen speakers very wide apart, and that often gives a very nice result. The midrange is still completely filled. We previously compared the Borresen M1 with the Borresen 01 SSE, which costs roughly half as much. The Borresen M1 sounds larger, grander, and has nothing more to do with a small speaker. You can place the Borresen M1 in a small room, but also in a listening room of 100 m2 and the M1 fills the entire space. The Borresen M1 sounds honest, rich, and tight. Vocals and instruments sound truly live. Everything has its limits, and a set of Borresen M1s cannot provide the same bass depth as very large speakers, but for their size there is nothing but respect for not only how powerful the bass reproduction of the M1 is, but also how musical this bass reproduction is. Sublime.
