General: Borresen Acoustics manufactures multiple speaker series, featuring the excellent affordable X-series, above that the high-quality C-series, and above that sits the high-end T-series. However, the M-series is the flagship reference series of speakers from Borresen Acoustics. The M-series speakers are among the best of the best on the speaker market.

Technical: Technically speaking, the Borresen M2 is one of the most exotic speakers on the market. The applied techniques and materials are unlike any other speaker manufacturer. Most large speaker manufacturers purchase speaker units from suppliers, but Borresen manufactures their own drivers. The cabinet is made from a natural composite material and internally reinforced. The in-house manufactured Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is located in its own compartment in the cabinet, with a tube leading to the back that ventilates this compartment, allowing the tweeter to see an open space at both the front and back, which results in more linear reproduction compared to a tweeter housed in a sealed compartment. The midrange driver, like the tweeter, has its own compartment in the cabinet, which is vented through a semi-damped port in the form of a long slot. Behind this slot are 4 brackets that disperse air. The midrange driver in the Borresen M2 is not filtered downward, so it participates in the bass reproduction for a smooth transition between bass and midrange, which is why the Borresen M2 is a 2.5-way system rather than a 3-way system. The 2 bass woofers are located at the bottom in the largest compartment in the cabinet, which is also vented by a large and wide port, but with 5 brackets for dispersion. This port is not damped with airy foam like the port of the compartment housing the midrange driver.

The 3 drivers used in the M2 are Borresen IronFree 5 Zirconium SSE mid/bass drivers, which are unique in the world. First, there is the basket, an asymmetrical 3D-printed basket of solid Zirconium. This basket provides optimal stability and airflow for the mid/bass driver. Manufacturing just one such basket costs thousands of dollars in production costs. The magnets used are the most powerful neodymium magnets on the market, and no iron is used in the magnet system. Additionally, an in-house fabricated pure silver pole ring is used in the magnet system for the lowest possible inductance. The membrane of the drivers in the Borresen M2 is made of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as Kevlar) in honeycomb design between them. These 3 layers are pressed firmly together and fastened to each other with a small amount of epoxy. However, the M-series has an additional layer on the cone, namely a thin layer of titanium with a very fine and special coating layer, specifically a coating layer that Audio Group Denmark calls 'Supreme Coating'. This Supreme Coating is made of a base layer of zirconium, with a layer of tungsten on top and a layer of aluminum chromium nitride on top of that. This coating layer is applied to the titanium in a Hi-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) machine. All this effort and exotic materials are not for nothing, the result is one of the most unique, stable, distortion-free and musical drivers on the market. The Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is also unique and found only in Borresen Acoustics speakers. This tweeter is also manufactured in-house. The membrane of this tweeter weighs only a minuscule 0.01 grams, yet it is a strong material that can withstand a minor impact. Because the moving mass of this tweeter is so low, no energy can be stored in it, resulting in completely distortion-free reproduction.

The internal wiring is entirely Ansuz Acoustics D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring. This wiring consists of a copper core that is subsequently silver-plated and even gold-plated, which provides unique, clean and highly musical sound. The speaker connections accept banana plugs only. Below the speaker connections, there is also a 14 Volt BNC input. This last input is to power the active noise cancelling Tesla Coil techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics used in the Borresen M2. Two adapters are supplied with a set of M2, but you can also choose to power this 14 Volt connection from an Ansuz Acoustics PowerBox model for the best results.

Decoupling: The base plate is a stylish sandwich solution of 2 layers of solid titanium with a layer of compact laminate in between. On top of this is an angled piece of composite material upon which the cabinet rests. This bottom, consisting of multiple layers, ensures optimal resonance behavior of the entire cabinet, which reduces stress in the sound. For extra resonance control, 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz Z3W decouplers are supplied with a set of Borresen M2. The Darkz Z3W are decouplers with discs of solid zirconium that have been surface-treated with a very fine layer of zirconium and hafnium, which like the coating layer on the membranes of the Borresen M2 drivers are applied by a Hi-PIMS machine. Between these zirconium discs are tungsten balls that provide the decoupling. These Ansuz Darkz Z3W with a retail value of € 28,800 for 8 pieces should be placed under the feet of the base plate.

All in all, the Borresen M2 is one of the most exclusive speakers on the world market.

Listening: Listening to a Borresen speaker system is always a pleasure. You consistently hear solid and deep bass reproduction and extremely low distortion. The sound also completely separates from the speakers. You can position the Borresen speakers very wide apart, and that often yields an excellent result. The midrange remains fully filled. The Borresen M2 takes it a step further, what you hear here is practically pure magic. Everything plays with such ease, and it sounds so honest, free and transparent that you almost don't realize you're listening to speakers. The Borresen M2 sets new standards in speaker design and sound, it is an exceptionally special-sounding system, no wonder that designer Michael Børresen himself has a set of Borresen M2 at home. The Borresen M2 can be placed in many rooms, even relatively compact ones thanks to the smart design of the cabinet and drivers. But even in a listening room of 100 m² the M2 can fill the entire space. The Borresen M2 sounds honest, rich and tight. Voices and instruments sound authentically live. The Borresen M2 sounds more lively and fresh due to its more compact cabinet and single midrange driver compared to the larger Borresen M3, while the M3 sounds somewhat grander and more relaxed due to its larger cabinet and dual midrange drivers. Compared to the Borresen M1 stand-mounted speaker, the Borresen M2 obviously sounds more complete and larger with deeper bass reproduction. For their size, there is nothing but respect for not only how powerful and deep the bass reproduction of the M2 is, but also how musical this bass reproduction is. Sublime.
