General: Beautiful integrated Class D amplifier from Serblin & Son. For many, the name Serblin will ring a bell, thinking of Sonus Faber. This amplifier was indeed developed by Fabio Serblin, the nephew of Franco Serblin, the founder of Sonus Faber. The name is certainly upheld with the release of this magnificent amplifier line.

Technology: The Serblin & Son Frankie D1000 is a Class D amplifier with 250 Watts at 8 Ohms and 500 Watts at 4 Ohms. With this, it is also the most powerful amplifier from Serblin & Son. More than sufficient to drive the most demanding systems. The chassis feels very solid and consists of a solid aluminum top and bottom plate with wooden side panels. Available in both black and walnut. The minimalist front panel complements this sleek design nicely. The Frankie D1000 features only two control knobs for volume and input, with LEDs indicating the selected input. The Frankie D1000 has an analog volume control that uses a series of 127 individual resistors, a technique that has proven itself superior to the commonly known potentiometer. This ensures unprecedented sound reproduction and longevity. Not bad for an amplifier in this price range. What also stands out about the Frankie D1000 are the phono inputs that accommodate both MM and MC. Both inputs can be adjusted with the switches on the back, so you can work with virtually any cartridge.

Sound: The Serblin & Son Frankie D1000 with 500 Watts at 4 Ohms is truly a powerhouse. Yet it would not be called a show-off. The dynamics are present when needed without sounding overly bright. There is tremendous grip even on the most complex passages and clarity is maintained. The bass is tight and full. An overall pleasant amplifier to listen to.

PLUS: The Serblin & Son Frankie D1000 is also available as the Frankie D1000 PLUS. What you get in return is a streaming module with High Resolution D/A Converter with an SPDIF Coax RCA and a Toslink Optical input. The streamer can be controlled via Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect, internet radio can also be listened to or it can be used as a DLNA player, allowing you to play music files with Audirvana. It is also possible to play via Bluetooth or Airplay. This concerns the Plus version.
