Technology : The Sonus Faber Olympica 1 is a beautifully constructed compact monitor loudspeaker with a very mature sound. The cabinet design is remarkable in itself. Not only the classic speaker form, but also an asymmetrical cabinet without parallel walls. The cabinet itself is HDF and veneered with the finest wood species, now Wenge and Walnut. The bottom and top plates are solid walnut wood, finished with genuine leather. The Sonus Faber Olympica 1 is not a bass reflex, but features a Stealth Flow at the rear. The drivers used are new and very good. The new Sonus Faber Arrowpoint silk dome tweeter of 29mm is excellent, driven by a neodymium magnet, and ensures fast and pure treble reproduction. The 150mm composite bass/middriver is also a highlight. The cone itself is made from a mix of natural materials, wood, paper, kenaf and other fibers. The crossover is high quality and the Bi-Wire connection is made from Sonus Faber's own connectors.

Listening : Listening to a Sonus Faber is always a special musical pleasure. This Olympica 1 certainly is too. The earlier Sonus Faber models always had a warmer sound. That warmth is still present somewhat, but the new generation of Sonus Fabers has truly improved. Faster, more open and with more and finer dynamics. The Sonus Faber Olympica 1 is a compact monitor, but it doesn't sound like one. The Sonus Faber Olympica 1 sounds grand and captivating. The bass is surprisingly deep and beautifully tuned. The beauty of a compact high-quality 2-way loudspeaker is the excellent imaging. The soundstage is simply right. Very precise and also complete. The Sonus Faber Olympica 1 is somewhat reminiscent of the old Guarneri Homage but performs with even more ease and openness. Very special.
