The Doepke DFS 2 F and DFS 4 F are audiophile residual current circuit breakers used in top-tier audio systems. A residual current circuit breaker is a safety switch that detects when current flows to ground, for example when a child inserts a metal object into an outlet. The residual current circuit breaker detects this and switches off the entire circuit group. Very safe, but a standard residual current circuit breaker is disastrous for sound quality. The current speed is heavily impeded, and the soundstage collapses. Normally we therefore connect the Gigawatt G16A Dual meter cabinet switch in a circuit group ahead of the residual current circuit breaker. The current then does not pass through the residual current circuit breaker at all, and thus cannot cause any sound degradation. In an average audiophile setup, we see that the power cable is connected to only a single or double switch, exclusively for the audio group or video installation. So the risk of someone piercing a metal object into an outlet is small, but still. For those who want maximum quality in their circuit group, the Gigawatt G16A without a residual current circuit breaker is the best solution, but for those who also want maximum safety, the Doepke DFS 2 F or DSF 4 F should be connected before the Gigawatt G16A switch. The Doepke DFS then provides the residual current protection, and the Gigawatt G16A provides short-circuit safety. This way your installation is sonically perfect and optimally protected against short circuits and quick fingers with metal objects.
