General : The McIntosh MA252 is a 2 x 100 Watt integrated hybrid amplifier including a phono input for MM cartridges. It also features a high-quality headphone amplifier.

Technical : The McIntosh MA252 is a very stable and solidly built amplifier with distinctive technologies. The McIntosh MA252 offers 2 pairs of analog RCA inputs and 1 pair of analog XLR inputs, and also has a phono input for MM cartridges. There is also a Mono Pre Output on the MA252 for connecting a subwoofer. The menu also includes bass and treble controls, allowing you to adjust the sound to your personal preference. The preamplifier in the McIntosh MA252 consists of two 12AX7a and two 12AT7 tubes. The fact that the McIntosh MA252 barely gets warm is because McIntosh has developed special cooling fins on the sides of the amplifier. For protection, the McIntosh MA252 features 'Power Guard' which prevents the amplifier from clipping, ensuring your speakers are safe. In case of overvoltage or short circuit, the McIntosh MA252 has a fuseless protection built in, called 'Sentry Monitor'. By not using fuses, the current is virtually unrestricted, which benefits sound quality.

Appearance : You can almost always recognize a McIntosh device from a mile away, and the same goes for the McIntosh MA252. The MA252 features the distinctive glass plate on the front with the McIntosh logo glowing green and below it a blue LED display where 2 analog meters with illuminated blue background are located. Below that you'll find an LED display showing the volume and input selection, and you can also access the menu from here. For those who don't like illuminated equipment, the lights behind the analog meters can be switched off and the intensity of the LED screen can be easily dimmed or made brighter. In front of the glass front is a chrome plate with the 12AX7A tubes, the tubes come with a nice individual protective cage with a McIntosh logo. The 12AX7A & 12AT7 tubes have LED lights at the tube bases. These light up orange during tube warm-up and light up green when the MA252 is ready to use. These LED lights can also be easily switched on or off. And right at the front you'll find 2 large shiny knobs for volume control and menu operation and input selection. The dimensions are 30.5cm (W) x 19.4cm (H) x 41.9cm (D), the MA252 weighs 13 Kg.

Sound : The McIntosh MA252 has the typical McIntosh character. This means the MA252 sounds beautifully full, detailed and rich. The difference with older McIntosh equipment lies more in the detail and tangibility of the soundstage. The McIntosh MA252 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced, even at higher volumes with heavier music the McIntosh MA252 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable, so you don't need to rush to turn down the volume. This means you can enjoy the McIntosh MA252 for hours, days, weeks, months or years. Overall there's a pleasant tube sound thanks to the tube preamp stage, adding more emotion and involvement with the music. Although the McIntosh MA252 sounds calm and refined, it doesn't sound dull or too tame. Because of this very refined character, the McIntosh MA252 is suitable for almost any type of music at almost any volume on almost any type of speaker.
