General : Exclusive handmade speakers by Ichos from Austria. Very thoughtfully designed and unique.

Technology : The Ichos No Three is a very well thought-out design. The cabinet consists of different types and thicknesses of wood. Unique is the horn inside the cabinet that radiates downward. This horn is very precisely tuned and supports the stiffly suspended 25cm full-range driver. You read that correctly, full-range, this specially made driver is unfiltered. According to Ichos (and many other manufacturers), filters cause a restriction in the signal path and work against faithful reproduction, hence the choice not to filter the driver below the tweeter. The 25cm full-range driver is specially made by Ichos and the diaphragm is treated with various oils and violin varnishes in a similar way to how famous violins are treated, one of these famous violins being for example the Stradivari violin. This process of treating the diaphragms takes as long as 8 weeks. The horn in the cabinet allows this driver to reproduce bass more easily without excessive effort, allowing it to focus more on the midrange. The tweeter is a dipole, so open at the back. It sits in its own aluminum housing that stands on top of the speakers. This decouples the tweeter from the rest of the cabinet, with the added benefit that the placement of the tweeter is adjustable.

Listening : The Ichos No Three is a marvel in reproducing live music. Because you have one unfiltered driver that plays a large part of the frequency spectrum, there is a seamless transition from the bass to the lower midrange/midrange/upper midrange area. Also, the woofer is tightly suspended, which provides a very transparent and open reproduction. The bass is qualitatively excellent, perhaps not as powerful in the lowest frequencies as that of a large 3-way speaker, but much more rhythmic, tighter and more musical. The Ichos No Three is an easy speaker to drive and place, and you can work excellently with tube amplifiers with the Ichos No Three, in fact, we believe that with a good tube amplifier you can get the most musical reproduction from these speakers.
