General: The PL200 3G is the smaller floorstanding model in the latest Platinum 3G series reference range from Monitor Audio, based in the United Kingdom.

Technology: The Monitor Audio PL200 3G is a very modern loudspeaker. Not only does it look modern, it is also built in a very modern way. The size is well suited to many types of living rooms, and thanks to the cleverly designed and solid cabinet, few resonances come into play. The 6" bass woofers are upgraded RDT III woofers, and the 4" midrange is also an RDT III driver. These RDT III drivers, where RDT stands for Rigid Diaphragm Technology, are designed to be stiff and light so that they cannot easily break open (deform). The RDT III has been improved in 3 areas compared to its predecessor, so it deforms even less and reproduces music even more accurately. The tweeter is a very modern MPD III tweeter, a folded ribbon tweeter designed for Monitor Audio's flagship system (the Hyphn), and it is therefore also found in the PL200 3G. The drivers used and the smart, solid cabinet construction result in an extremely high-quality whole that is not only technically excellent but also enormously musical.

Listening: If we had to describe the sound of the Monitor Audio PL200 3G in one word, that word would be 'coherent'. There is an excellent balance between all reproduced frequencies. The Monitor Audio PL200 3G pulls you into the recording and does not let you go. Its neutrality and tangibility of sound are remarkable, while there is also a pleasing combination of dynamics and calm. The bass goes very deep and is very controlled for a loudspeaker of this size. You also clearly hear that the drivers and tweeter do not really distort: the sound remains intelligible and clear, whether you play it loudly or softly. In our view, the Monitor Audio PL200 3G is a very successful loudspeaker with a well-balanced sound.

This set of Monitor Audio PL200 3G is finished in the elegant Satin White version. The set is less than a year old and is complete with packaging and accessories.
