Pass Labs USA is mainly known for its outstanding Class A and Class A/B amplifiers, such as the excellent Pass Labs XA-100.5. However, Pass Labs USA also manufactures outstanding reference speakers. The first speaker from Pass Labs is the fully active "Rushmore". The Pass Labs SR-1 and SR-2 are the successors to the Rushmore speaker. The "Rushmore" is a 200 kg heavy active speaker produced from 2003 to 2008. The successors to the Rushmore are therefore the Pass Labs "Son of Rushmore", namely the SR-1 and the smaller SR-2. The SR-2 presented here is a solid 3-way passive loudspeaker system and the design features are the same as the "Rushmore". Infinite and perfect dynamics, excellent control, very wide imaging and ultra-low distortion. For the SR-2, Pass Labs chose top-line Excel units with Nextel-coated magnesium woofers and midrange units, and the 29mm Hexadym Magnet Softdome tweeter. The bass reproduction of the SR-2 is handled by a 26 cm Nextel driver in an open enclosure. These are the same and very expensive Nextel woofers as used in the SR-1. The important mid and high-frequency range is reproduced by exactly the same units as used in the SR-1. Only the SR-2 is a single enclosure whereas the SR-1 consists of 2 separate enclosures. The designed crossover filter is built with very expensive components, such as Kimber and Solen Capacitors, Mills resistors and Erse air coils. The wiring is the same as used in the Pass Labs amplifiers. A unique feature is that the Pass Labs can be adjusted for any room. The Tweeter and the midrange driver are adjustable with a 3-step switch. You can set the high tones and midtones to +1dB, 0dB, and -1dB. The Pass Labs SR-2 is entirely designed as a phase-, tonal- and dynamically correct reproducer, and that is audible. The Pass Labs SR-2 sounds very natural and homogeneous. The bass reproduction is very pure and extends very deep, without sounding excessively heavy. All details in the bass are very clearly audible. The midrange sounds very calm and very beautifully detailed, and the high-frequency reproduction is silky smooth and very detailed. The sound completely separates from the speakers and completely relaxes you. The Pass Labs SR-2 can play very loud, but also very soft. Even late in the evening at very low levels you won't miss anything. This Pass Labs SR-2 set is a demo model, only a few years old, in excellent condition and comes complete with the original packaging. You can now listen to the Pass Labs SR-2 at Ohm-Audio bv.
