Technical : The Krell KRC-2 is quite mature in age, but technically and sonically it does not lag behind the average high-end preamplifier of today. In its time, the KRC-2 was one of the few fully balanced preamplifiers in its price range. You also have a nice selection of inputs to work with, 4 RCA inputs and 2 XLR inputs. Furthermore, the Krell KRC-2 also features a balance control. In the Krell KRC-2 you will find a discrete circuit, with a balanced FET input stage and a Class A output stage. All components, including the power supply, are of extremely high quality and that is immediately audible.

Listening : The Krell KRC-2 is a highly refined preamplifier, it sounds powerful, full and sophisticated. What is particularly striking is the definition with which everything is rendered, the soundstage sounds grand and honest, but especially also musical. The Krell KRC-2 has virtually no drawbacks, everything sounds full but yet dynamic and open. The bass also goes very deep, but remains beautifully controlled and does not dominate or interfere. The Krell KRC-2 does exactly what you can expect from a high-end preamplifier, and is inherently uncompromising.
