Technical: The Tannoy Definition DC10A is a 2-way Dual Concentric floor-standing speaker of the highest quality. This DC10A is designed for small and very large listening rooms. The Dual Concentric unit has been Tannoy's unique characteristic for decades, however this unit is different. This 10" unit is equipped with a very powerful Alnico magnet, which provides a very strong magnetic field, and thus high efficiency, but this method of drive also provides a unique sound. The tweeter is a 2" aluminum compression driver with a Pepperpot Waveguide to refine the stereo image. The cabinet is sturdy, heavily braced and not overly damped. The side walls are rounded to avoid standing waves. The grilles are held in place with strong magnets, and are easy to remove. The filter is equipped with very expensive components, and is mounted on an anti-resonance plate, and the entire filter is cryogenically treated. The filter connection is Biwire with WBT nextgen connectors. A 5th connector is present to optionally ground the DC10A. The Tannoy DC10A is a large speaker with a dual bass reflex port with very deep tuning. The Tannoy DC10A also has a mass-loading cabinet at the bottom, which can be filled with sand or lead. The Tannoy DC10A stands on a heavy CNC-milled base plate with extra-large and very finely adjustable spikes. The Tannoy DC10A is proudly made in the UK and is also sonically an absolute highlight in the Tannoy program.

Listening: Thanks to the fact that the Tannoy DC10A has a fairly high efficiency of 92dB and an impedance of 8 ohms, this speaker sounds fantastic with beautiful large and powerful amplifiers, but also with small and less powerful tube amplifiers for example. You immediately hear that this is something special. A fantastically open, pure and precise midrange is the first thing that stands out. The soundstage is large, and everything is rock-solid positioned in its place and completely separate from the cabinet. Bass reproduction is deep and very nicely controlled. That is the advantage of a relatively small unit in a large cabinet, there is no stress in the bass. The treble is pure, precise and very refined. The Tannoy DC10A is also dynamic. When it needs to, it really plays seriously loud. The Tannoy DC10A is now connected to a 211 Tube amplifier, 2 x 15 watts, and that is an ideal combination.
