Seawave Acoustic

May 2022.

Team Ohm Audio is in Munich, at the High End trade fair. 4 halls full of beautiful (and less beautiful) high-end audio equipment. There are also a number of corridors above, with listening studios on both sides. Sometimes filled with beautiful sounds, sometimes it's meh, and sometimes it's just downright bad. The overall impression is that there is still considerable development happening with ever new beautiful products. Usually there is nothing new under the sun. Existing techniques are being exploited and sometimes you see something new. Alongside the High End Messe, there is also a side fair, the Hifi de Luxe in the Marrion Hotel. There we came across something we listened to with amazement: Seawave Acoustic.

Seawave Acoustic AM23

Seawave Acoustic is the brainchild of South Korean Bo San. Bo San is a Buddhist monk and is heavily involved in recording lectures by the Grand Master Gu-san. Inspired by the great influences of technology, Bo began experimenting with new techniques. The techniques in the 3 models are: cast aluminum housings, custom-made units, in-house developed resistors, coils and capacitors where all connections are not soldered but crimped. NST Non Soldering Technique.

Seawave Acoustic Special Components

Seawave Acoustic makes 3 models. The Aletheia III, the AM23 and the AM34. In the Marriot Hotel the AM23s were playing. The AM23 is a relatively compact standmount loudspeaker with a number of special properties. First of all there is the housing. We know that the housing has an enormous influence on the sound quality of the entire loudspeaker. The Seawave Acoustic models are made of cast AC4C Aluminum. The housings are cast in one piece and are extremely stable and vibration-free. That is already remarkable because most loudspeaker manufacturers still make their housings from MDF or something similar. Then the drivers. Seawave makes these themselves, in-house. The AM23 and AM34 are equipped with solid birch horn systems for the treble and midtreble. The horns for the treble are driven by a very special, also self-made, compression driver made of Hanji paper. This special Korean paper is super light and super stiff and free from annoying resonances. The separate midhorn of the AM34 requires a larger driver that generates much more energy than the treble horn, and therefore it is made of Titanium.

Seawave Acoustic Special Components

The woofers are conventional dynamic drivers, made with a honeycomb membrane and a super-strong magnet.

The crossovers are very special. The components are made exclusively for Seawave Acoustic. For example, the inductor, the coil that relieves the woofer unit of high tones, is made with only a tenth of the wire length of a normal coil. The Nickel Alloy coil and kapton insulators provide only 10% of the resistance of a conventional coil. The quality of these crossovers is very special, and together with the unique cabinet, the Hanji horn and the units are responsible for the very high reproduction quality of the Seawave Acoustic models.

Seawave Acoustic AM34

Our team was so impressed by the musical qualities, and frankly also by the build quality of the Seawave Acoustic loudspeakers that we decided to bring this brand to Europe for distribution in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
