General: The McIntosh MA252 is a 2 x 100 Watt integrated hybrid amplifier with a phono input for MM cartridges. It also features a high-quality headphone amplifier built-in.

Technical: The McIntosh MA252 is an extremely stable and solidly built amplifier with distinctive technologies. The McIntosh MA252 offers 2 pairs of analog RCA inputs and 1 pair of analog XLR inputs, plus a phono input for MM cartridges. It also has a Mono Pre Output on the MA252 for connecting a subwoofer. The menu includes bass and treble controls, allowing you to tune the sound to your personal preference. The preamp section in the McIntosh MA252 consists of two 12AX7a and two 12AT7 tubes. The McIntosh MA252 generates minimal heat thanks to specially developed cooling fins on the sides of the amplifier designed by McIntosh. For protection, the McIntosh MA252 features 'Power Guard' which prevents the amplifier from clipping and protects your speakers. In the event of overvoltage or short circuit, the McIntosh MA252 has a fuse-free protection system called 'Sentry Monitor'. By not using traditional fuses, the current is virtually unrestricted, which benefits sound quality.

Appearance: A McIntosh device can almost always be recognized from a mile away, and the McIntosh MA252 is no exception. The MA252 features the distinctive glass plate on the front with the McIntosh logo illuminated in green, below which is a blue LED display with 2 analog meters with an illuminated blue background. Below that you'll find an LED display showing volume and input selection, and you can also open the menu with it. For those who prefer not to have illuminated equipment, the lights behind the analog meters can be switched off and the brightness of the LED screen can be easily dimmed or brightened. Behind the glass front you'll find a chrome plate with the 12AX7A tubes, which come with attractive individual protective cages with a McIntosh logo. The 12AX7A & 12AT7 tubes have LED lights at the tube bases. These light up orange during warm-up and turn green when the MA252 is ready to use. These LED lights can also be easily switched on or off. And at the very front you'll find 2 large shiny knobs for volume control and menu operation and input selection. The dimensions are 30.5cm (W) x 19.4cm (H) x 41.9cm (D), the M252 weighs 13 kg.

Sound : The McIntosh MA252 has the typical McIntosh character. This means the MA252 sounds beautifully warm, detailed and full. The difference with older McIntosh equipment lies more in the detail and tangibility of the soundstage. The McIntosh MA252 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced, and even at higher volumes with heavier music the McIntosh MA252 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable – you won't need to rush to turn the volume down. This means that after hours, days, weeks, months or years you can still enjoy the McIntosh MA252. Overall, there is a pleasant tube sound thanks to the tube preamplifier stage, which adds more emotion and engagement with the music. Although the McIntosh MA252 sounds calm and refined, it doesn't sound dull or too tame.
