General: 2-Way Full Range magnetostatic Ribbon loudspeakers.

Technology: The Analysis Audio Epsilon is the larger sibling of the Omicron, the smallest loudspeaker from Analysis Audio in Greece. The Epsilon has been completely redesigned and now features Single Wiring connection and a modified crossover filter. Like all other Analysis Audio loudspeakers, the Epsilon is a 2-way speaker with an extremely low crossover point for the tweeter. From 650 Hz onwards, the ultra-fast ribbon midrange/tweeter takes over from the ribbon woofer/midrange unit. Filtering is not applied in the critical 2500 Hz region, which is typical for a 2-way loudspeaker. The filter itself is a 6dB filter with minimal component count and minimal phase shifts in the crossover region. The Epsilon's impedance is around 5 ohms and very flat, making it an easy load for the amplifier. The tweeter itself is a work of art. It is a 105 cm long and almost 4 cm wide pure ribbon, set in Kapton. Ribbons are known for their super-fast, transparent, and uncolored sound, and this ribbon midrange/tweeter of the Epsilon ranks among the best we have ever heard. In conventional dome tweeters, the dome is driven at its edge, and all forces distribute through the diaphragm. Not so with the Epsilon ribbon. The diaphragm is driven over its entire surface. The same applies to the bass/midrange panel. Normal woofers and midrange drivers are typically driven hard in the center by a voice coil, which creates stress in the cones. Not so with Analysis Audio. In fact, both membranes of all Analysis Audio loudspeakers are the voice coil themselves, so no cones or domes are driven at all. The woofer panel is also a ribbon, but here the panel is trapezoidal. This is unique and prevents resonances and standing waves in the film. What is even more special is that the woofer/midrange ribbon is not stretched tightly in the frame, but is suspended from a kind of rubber surround. The panel can move very freely, which allows the Epsilon to reproduce particularly deep bass. The Epsilon is relatively compact but clearly larger than the Omicron, measuring 132 cm high by 61 cm wide and 6 cm deep. Sensitivity is certainly adequate at 86 dB, and the Epsilon plays sublimely with amplifiers from around 2 x 50 Watts, though we recommend a somewhat more powerful amplifier for the Epsilon. The Epsilon's maximum power handling is 250 watts, so it can also play quite loud, though this is not necessary. Due to direct radiation, the entire musical presentation is fully reproduced even at lower volumes. The Analysis Audio Epsilon is a High End ribbon loudspeaker from Analysis Audio in the higher segment and it sounds fantastic, just like the other speakers from this manufacturer.

Listening: The Analysis Audio Epsilon is clearly a larger sibling of the Omicron. The Epsilon sounds essentially the same, but it plays noticeably deeper in the bass, the soundstage is slightly larger, and the Epsilon can generally play a bit more easily at high volumes. Fresh out of the box, the new Epsilon already sounds excellent, but it is clear that these ribbon speakers need some break-in time, like any other high-end speaker. After 100 hours of playing, the Epsilon is fully broken in. The Epsilons play with remarkable airiness and 3D character, and what immediately stands out is the beautiful deep bass and very fine dynamic reproduction. You hear things on this speaker that you haven't heard before. The Epsilon is a dipole speaker and therefore must be positioned at least 80cm from the rear wall for serious listening. When listening to Analysis Audio speakers, you notice that they have boxless designs. Cabinet resonances are completely absent, which gives a very fine and soothing sound, with nothing that disturbs. All that remains is the perfect and pure musical presentation, and that is very special to hear. The Epsilon can play quite loudly and delivers beautiful bass, and you can play virtually any type of music on it. The Analysis Audio Epsilon is permanently available at Ohm-Audio for a demo.
