General: The Ansuz Acoustics Mainz X3 is the latest entry-level powercord from Ansuz Acoustics in Denmark. The new Mainz X3 now belongs to the Steel Series from Ansuz Acoustics. The Ansuz Steel Series is named the Steel Series because the gold-plated connectors are housed in a stainless steel (CRES 316) enclosure. The predecessor of the Mainz X3, the Mainz X2, had connectors in an aluminum enclosure. And for Ansuz Acoustics, that is a problem. Audio Group Denmark (under which Ansuz falls) is constantly researching different materials. Titanium, Copper, Stainless Steel and even Zirconium are frequently used. Ansuz is working to completely avoid aluminum in its new products. Aluminum has a negative effect on sound, it gives an artificial tone due to resonance behavior and causes hysteresis. Rather than solving the problems aluminum causes later, Audio Group Denmark chose to tackle the problem at the source and no longer use aluminum in its products. The conductors are silver-plated and are stripped by a special machine to avoid damaging the conductor surface. The Ansuz Mainz X3 is a very stiffly twisted cable which reduces noise in the conductors and improves mechanical stability. The Ansuz Mainz X3 is handmade in the Audio Group Denmark factory in Aalborg, Denmark.

Sound Characteristics: The Ansuz Acoustics Mainz X3 has a natural and lively sound. The bass is tight and rhythmic and the dynamics are excellent. Yet the sound remains within comfort limits. The sound is transparent as it should be but it is not unnecessary spectacle, which you recognize in the Ansuz character that practically all Ansuz cables possess. Everything you hear is pure music, we could talk about the body of the bass and the detail in the treble. But at Ansuz Acoustics, we don't need to talk about that, instead we talk about the enormous musical qualities that Ansuz Acoustics products bring with them. The more affordable Ansuz Mainz X3 is certainly no exception here. The spatial imaging is large, airy and pleasant and you are immediately involved with the performers and the music. The time to listen to sounds is over, the time to listen to music has begun.
