General : The PL300 is the former flagship model of Monitor Audio from the United Kingdom. The PL300 is the largest model in the highly acclaimed Platinum series. The later Platinum series from the 2nd and 3rd generation also had a PL500 model, but this PL300 from the 1st generation was at the time the largest model and the best speaker that Monitor Audio made.

Technology : The Monitor Audio PL300 features Monitor Audio's own C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminium Magnesium) drivers and tweeter. This material is an alloy of aluminum and magnesium which is then coated with ceramic. This material is lightweight and extremely stiff, which results in extremely low distortion and makes the music signal reproduced easily and accurately. The ribbon tweeter is also made of C-CAM material and this tweeter is engaged fairly low from 1.800Hz, but this tweeter can reproduce frequencies up to 100kHz(!). The cabinet is very solid and resonance-free, both speakers also weigh almost 50Kg each. The first Platinum series from Monitor Audio was introduced in 2007 and immediately set new standards in speaker technology and musicality, in 2016 the Platinum series was renewed to the 2nd generation. But the first Platinum series is the blueprint on which all new reference models from Monitor Audio are based.

Listening : The Monitor Audio PL300 sounds spacious and refined. Details are reproduced with great ease without imposing themselves and overwhelming the essence of the music. The character of the sound itself is neutral and friendly. Little coloration, an honest reproduction, but without the sound being described as 'bare'. Voices and instruments sound clean and 'live'. Despite their friendly character, these Monitor Audio PL300 can also sound quite powerful when needed, thanks to the stiff and distortion-free drivers the bass sounds tight and well-defined, drum solos and electronic music are reproduced very convincingly. This makes the Monitor Audio PL300 suitable for many types of listeners, because both at low and high volumes the musicality remains intact and the details and space in the recording are clearly audible.
