General : Flagship high-end streamer from the Danish brand Aavik Acoustics.

Technology : Aavik Acoustics streamers are user-friendly high-end devices with distinctive techniques to achieve the best sound quality. Aavik Acoustics devices are efficient and always packed in a stylish enclosure. On the front you will find an enormous matrix red dot display which can be read clearly from almost any listening position. You can adjust the brightness of the display yourself, but you can also choose full display dimming if you find looking at displays unpleasant.

Audio Group Denmark (Aavik Acoustics, Ansuz Acoustics, Børresen Acoustics) has its own view on how electronics should be and how they should sound. For this reason, the enclosure of Aavik Acoustics devices is made from a natural composite material instead of aluminum. With this flagship model, the S-580, a stylish titanium cross has also been used, which is integrated into the top plate. This looks beautiful, of course, but also serves the function of reducing cabinet resonance. Furthermore, great attention is paid to eliminating noise. They do this with techniques that you also see with Aavik Acoustics' sister brands (Ansuz and Borresen Acoustics). In the Aavik S-580 you will find different types of Tesla Coils. The principle of the Tesla Coils is that a Tesla Coil consists of 2 coils, a coil and a counter coil. As soon as the coil encounters a noise spike, the counter coil creates a counter spike out of phase. This cancels the initial noise spike, somewhat like a noise-cancelling headphone works, but mechanically instead of electronically/software-wise. The more Tesla Coils, the more effectively the total amount of noise is eliminated. The Aavik S-580 contains 108 Active Tesla Coils, three times as many as in the Aavik S-180 and 1.5 times as many as in the Aavik S-280. The Active Tesla Coils operate under voltage, which makes them more effective than the Passive Tesla Coils from Ansuz Acoustics. Additionally, there are also 236 Active Square Tesla Coils found in the Aavik S-580. The Active Square Tesla Coils are square coils which are integrated directly into the double-sided printed circuit board, on the other side of the board are the square counter coils. Together, these two types of Tesla Coils reduce noise through the music signal, which in turn provides quieter, more refined and more detailed music reproduction with a blacker background. What the Aavik S-580 has that the S-180 does not have is the unique technique: Analog Dither Circuitry, this technique comes from radar technology. The Analog Dither Circuitry allows the Tesla Coils to emit pulsating signals with precisely determined frequencies. These signals are sent out of phase. The result of this technique is that the music signal is significantly amplified and the background noise floor is eliminated.

Below the Aavik S-580 are the entry-level model from Aavik Acoustics, the S-180, and Aavik's mid-range model, the S-280. In the Aavik S-580, the internal parts are made of pure copper, whereas in the S-180 and S-280 these are made of aluminum instead, to reduce hysteresis in the enclosure. Also, in the Aavik S-580, a titanium cross is incorporated into the top plate to reduce vibrations from the cabinet. Each step up you take with the Aavik streamer models results in a more detailed, deeper and more musical soundstage.

Due to the materials and techniques used, the Aavik Acoustics streamers have a sound that cannot be compared to other streamers on the market. Under the Aavik S-580 are Titanium Ansuz Darkz Feet, these are special feet designed to sit on top of Ansuz Acoustics Darkz isolation feet. Once you place an Ansuz Darkz under each foot of the Aavik S-580, the Aavik S-580 suffers less from resonances, making the sound more natural by giving it more body and rhythm. The sound is also more dynamic and at the same time more controlled and more balanced. For this reason, we always recommend eventually placing Ansuz Darkz under Aavik Acoustics equipment for optimal sound quality.

Listening : The Aavik Acoustics S-580 sounds extremely natural and refined. The special thing about Aavik streamers is that they sound very analog, as if you are listening to an analog device rather than a streamer. The music is excellently balanced, it is dynamic and rhythmic, but not forced. It is pleasant and slightly warm, but absolutely not woolly or restrained. The bass is firm and deep, but also tight and well-defined. The high tones are detailed and transparent but not analytical or technical. The overall picture just works. This makes listening to the Aavik S-580 a very interesting, pleasant and simply enjoyable experience. Everything in the recording is reproduced effortlessly, so you don't have to strain your ears to catch everything. As a result, technical listening (and thus listening fatigue) is not an issue. Because the Aavik S-580 has more Tesla Coils, Analog Dither Circuitry and a copper interior, the Aavik S-580 sounds cleaner, more dynamic, more open and more detailed than the Aavik S-180 and S-280. In terms of sound character there is no difference, in terms of sound quality there is, the Aavik S-580 is simply one level higher than the already excellent S-180 and S-280.
