General: The Aavik P-588 is the top model of the latest generation of stereo power amplifiers from the Danish brand Aavik Acoustics, which is part of Audio Group Denmark along with Ansuz Acoustics, Børresen Acoustics and Axxess. The Aavik P-588 has been extensively renewed in many respects compared to its predecessor, the P-580. For example, the enclosure has been completely redesigned, now made from different materials and the design comes from Flemming Rasmussen (Gryphon Audio founder and designer). The Aavik P-588 is the model above the P-188 and the P-288.

Enclosure: The new enclosure of the Aavik P-X88 series is extremely thoughtfully designed and carefully selected in its materials, with the whole structure being very solidly built and cleanly finished. This is thanks to Audio Group Denmark's relentless attention to researching and using different materials for optimal sound quality. The electronics in your audio device is one thing, the enclosure is another. The enclosure of your device also contributes to a certain sound character. Aavik Acoustics made the enclosures of its first amplifiers from solid aluminum, but after considerable testing and listening they discovered that a natural composite enclosure provided a more natural sound, which led to the P-280 and P-580 enclosures being made from this material (the P-580 also featured a titanium cross on the top plate and a copper interior). Now the enclosure of the Aavik P-588, which is based on the flagship models of Aavik Acoustics, the 880-series, is made from solid copper side plates and a top and bottom plate using a sandwich design consisting of a solid copper plate, a compact laminate plate and a stainless steel plate. The feel and look are now even more premium, and this new enclosure has optimal resonance properties. The design is clearly derived from the stunning 880-series from Aavik and the overall appearance is very sleek and modern. What has been retained is the highly readable and dimmable red dot display. Large yet understated in appearance. New is the absence of buttons, which now consist of touchscreen buttons on the display, and new is the Aavik Acoustics logo on the front which is also dimmable along with the rest of the display. Also new are the large solid feet which incorporate Ansuz Darkz Feet that can be placed on Ansuz Darkz decouplers. A large part of this foot overlaps the Ansuz Darkz decoupler, which means you have less contrast between the color of the amplifier and the color of the Ansuz Darkz you place underneath it (for example, the Ansuz Darkz S2T are made of glossy stainless steel while the Aavik enclosure is black). Finally, the remote control has also been renewed, these are now the same beautiful and practical high gloss remotes that are also supplied with the 880-series, which really completes the feel and look.

Technology: The highly advanced technology in Aavik amplifiers is unique. The Aavik P-588 uses the latest Pascal amplifier generation. This latest generation UMAC™ amplification can switch even faster and generates even less noise than previous generations. As a result, less filtering is required and the output impedance is lower, giving the amplifier even greater control over connected speakers. The Aavik P-588 features 2 x 300 Watts at 8 Ohm and even 2 x 600 Watts at 4 Ohm. The Aavik P-588 can therefore drive virtually anything, from enormous Infinity's or B&W's and Wilson Audio to the largest models from Magnepan, Analysis Audio and other planar speakers. The resonant mode power supply is very generously dimensioned and always calculated for its task. The technical construction is very advanced and uses various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. For example, the Aavik P-588 contains comprehensive Noise and Impedance Reduction via Ansuz Tesla Coil and Dither Technology. The Aavik P-588 has the largest amount of noise cancelling of the P-X88 amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics. The P-588 features 108 Active Tesla Coils, and 259 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils eliminate noise from the music signal and reduce impedance, allowing for freer passage of the music signal from point A to point B. These Tesla Coils are supported by 10 Analog Dither Circuitry units of the latest (3rd) generation. The Aavik P-588 also contains 7 Gold Anti Aerial Resonance Coils. The power consumption of the Aavik P-588 is very favorable. The Aavik P-588 consumes only 1 Watt in standby, and in music mode consumption is < 30 Watts idle.

Sound : The Aavik P-588 has the quietest and most organic sound of the P-X88 models thanks to its extensive noise cancelling. This makes the P-588 not only the most detailed and precisely sounding amplifier in the P-X88 series, but also the most musical. You hear the music down to the smallest details, which are reproduced in a very easy and natural way. The Aavik P-588 is also a clear step forward compared to its predecessor, the P-580. The P-588 is more neutral, cleaner and more honest in its sound than the P-580. There is more liveliness in the sound, and the P-X88 amplifiers sound more neutral, making them sound more 'live' than their predecessors, which also applies to the P-188 and P-288 compared to the P-280. The bass of the Aavik P-588 is sublime, enormously powerful yet very controlled and balanced with the rest of the reproduction. The sound of the Aavik P-588 is neutral, dynamic and open, but in a way that remains true to nature and does not cause listening fatigue. The distinction between the foreground and background in the recording is clearly perceptible, and there is very good clarity when a lot is happening in the recording, even at higher volumes and with lesser quality recordings. Also important is the harmony in which everything that is individually easy to follow plays together. Because of this, you not only hear clearly what is happening in the recording, but it also remains musical and enjoyable to listen to without feeling that the recording is being 'dissected'. In short, the Aavik P-588 simply sounds very musical. Relaxed and with an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik P-588 sounds tight and dynamic and lets you hear everything when asked, but there is also a certain tranquility & comfort in the sound that allows you to also play quieter intimate music and a pleasant emotional transfer takes place. Even with horn speakers you can get along with an Aavik amplifier, and that is quite unique for a Class D amplifier. The sound is therefore in excellent balance and the overall picture simply works. Dynamically, the Aavik P-588 goes further than most Class A & A/B amplifiers, but that is not ultimately what it is only about. It is about sound quality and musicality, and to what extent an amplifier is able to convey emotions. And conveying the music the way it is intended is where the Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik P-588 is pure emotion, it is the model with the most emotional transfer of the P-X88 series power amplifiers.
