General : The Aavik P-588 is the flagship model of the latest generation of stereo power amplifiers from the Danish brand Aavik Acoustics, which is part of Audio Group Denmark together with Ansuz Acoustics, Børresen Acoustics and Axxess. The Aavik P-588 has been renewed in many aspects compared to its predecessor, the P-580. The housing has been completely redesigned, now made from different materials and the design comes from Flemming Rasmussen (Gryphon Audio founder and designer). The Aavik P-588 is the model above the P-188 and the P-288.

Housing : The new housing of the Aavik P-X88 series is very thoughtfully designed and built with careful material selection; the whole thing is very solidly constructed and finely finished. This is due to Audio Group Denmark's endless attention to researching and using different materials for optimal sound quality. The electronics in your audio device is one thing, the housing is another. The housing of your device also contributes to a certain sound character. Aavik Acoustics originally made the housings of its first amplifiers from solid aluminum, but after considerable experimentation, testing and listening, they discovered that a more natural composite housing produced a more natural sound, which is why the P-280 and P-580 housings were made from this material (the P-580 also featured a titanium cross on the top plate and copper internal work). Now the housing of the Aavik P-588, which is based on the flagship models of Aavik Acoustics, the 880-series, is made from solid copper side panels and a top and bottom plate with a sandwich design consisting of a solid copper plate, a compact laminate plate and a stainless steel plate. The feel and appearance are now even more premium, and this new housing has optimal resonance properties. The design is clearly derived from the stunning 880-series from Aavik and the whole thing looks very sleek and modern. What has been retained is the very readable and dimmable red dot display. Large but unobtrusive looking. New is the absence of buttons, which are now touchscreen buttons on the display, and new is the Aavik Acoustics logo on the front which is also dimmable along with the rest of the display. Also new are the large solid feet in which Ansuz Darkz Feet are integrated and which can be placed on Ansuz Darkz decouplers. A large portion of this foot covers the Ansuz Darkz decoupler, which reduces the contrast between the color of the amplifier and the color of the Ansuz Darkz you place underneath (for example, the Ansuz Darkz S2T are made of polished stainless steel while the Aavik housing is black). Finally, the remote control has also been redesigned; these are now the same beautiful and practical high gloss remotes that are also supplied with the 880-series, which really completes the feel and look.

Technology : The very advanced technology in the Aavik amplifiers is unique. The Aavik P-588 uses the latest generation amplifier from Pascal. This latest generation UMAC™ amplification can switch even faster and generates even less noise than previous generations. As a result, less filtering is required and the output impedance is lower, giving the amplifier even more control over the connected speakers. The Aavik P-588 features 2 x 300 Watts at 8 Ohm and even 2 x 600 Watts at 4 Ohm. The Aavik P-588 can therefore drive practically anything, from huge Infinity's or B&W's and Wilson Audio to the largest models of Magnepan, Analysis Audio and other magnetostatics. The resonant mode power supply is very generously dimensioned and always calculated for the task at hand. The technical design is very advanced and makes use of various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. The Aavik P-588 includes extensive Noise and Impedance Reduction through Ansuz Tesla Coil and Dither Technology. The Aavik P-588 features the largest amount of noise cancelling of the P-X88 amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics. The P-588 contains 108 Active Tesla Coils, and 259 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils eliminate noise from the music signal and lower the impedance, which allows for a freer flow of the music signal from point A to point B. These Tesla Coils are supported by 10 Analog Dither Circuitry units of the latest (3rd) generation. The Aavik P-588 also contains 7 Gold Anti Aerial Resonance Coils. The power consumption of the Aavik P-588 is very favorable. The Aavik P-588 consumes only 1 Watt in standby, and in music mode consumption is < 30 Watt idle.

Sound : The Aavik P-588, with its large amount of noise cancelling, has the quietest and most organic sound of the P-X88 models. This makes the P-588 not only the most detailed and precisely sounding amplifier in the P-X88 series, but also the most musical. You hear the music down to the smallest details, which are reproduced in a very easy and natural way. The Aavik P-588 is also a clear step forward compared to its predecessor, the P-580. The P-588 is more neutral, cleaner and more honest in its sound than the P-580. There is more liveliness in the sound, and the P-X88 amplifiers sound more neutral, making them sound more 'live' than their predecessors, which also applies to the P-188 and P-288 compared to the P-280. The bass of the Aavik P-588 is sublime, enormously powerful yet very controlled and balanced with the rest of the reproduction. The sound of the Aavik P-588 is neutral, dynamic and open, but in a way that remains true to the source and doesn't create listener fatigue. The distinction between the foreground and background in the recording is clearly perceptible, and there is very good clarity when a lot is happening in the recording, even at higher volumes and with lower quality recordings. Also important is the harmony in which everything that is individually easy to follow works together. This means you not only hear well what is exactly happening in the recording, but it also remains musical and enjoyable to listen to without feeling like the recording is being 'dissected'. In short, the Aavik P-588 simply sounds very musical. Relaxed and with an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik P-588 sounds tight and dynamic and lets everything through when required, but there is also a certain calm & comfort to the sound that allows you to also play quiet, intimate music comfortably and a pleasant emotional transfer takes place. Even with horn loudspeakers, you can manage with an Aavik amplifier, which is quite unique for a Class D amplifier. So the sound is excellent in balance and the overall picture simply works. Dynamically, the Aavik P-588 goes further than most Class A & A/B amplifiers, but that's not ultimately what it's all about. It's about sound quality and musicality, and to what extent an amplifier is capable of conveying emotions. And conveying the music the way it's intended is where Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik P-588 is pure emotion, it is the model with the most emotional transfer of the P-X88 series power amplifiers.
