General: Excellently built and very analog-sounding digital amplifier from Aavik Acoustics from Denmark. The Aavik I-580 is the top model of the I-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The Aavik I-580 is the model above the I-180 and the I-280 from Aavik Acoustics.

Technology: The highly advanced technology in Aavik amplifiers is unique. Aavik Acoustics manufactures digital amplifiers with an analog heart. The waveform is modulated with a sine wave, which delivers a much finer reproduction than triangle modulation. The damping is high and the control over the speakers is optimal. The power supply is extremely generous and always calculated for the task at hand. Another important aspect is the natural enclosure. The enclosure of the Aavik I-580 is the most unique of all models in the I-Series from Aavik Acoustics. The enclosure itself is made from a natural composite material, not hard and cold aluminum. On top you'll find a beautiful titanium cross which, besides looking good, also controls the resonance of the cabinet, resulting in a more natural and slightly warmer sound than the models without the titanium 'X' integrated into the top plate. What also sets the Aavik I-580 apart from the other models in the I-Series is that the inside of the I-580 is made from solid copper, this reduces hysteresis to an absolute minimal amount, which sonically ensures the music has more energy, power and liveliness. Aavik Acoustics has put a lot of work into the resonance-free design of the enclosure, and that translates directly into sound quality. The Aavik I-580 has a very generously dimmable display on the front which is easy to read from the listening position and a very fine volume control. Everything has been thought of. You can optionally place Darkz Resonance Control resonance dampers from Ansuz Acoustics under the Aavik I-580 in case you don't have an anti-resonance HiFi furniture. If you have multiple Aavik Acoustics devices, they are stackable via ceramic or titanium balls, onto which a Darkz Resonator from Ansuz Acoustics can then be placed. This way multiple devices take up minimal space without influencing each other through vibrations. The technical design is very advanced and makes use of various techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. For instance, the Aavik I-580 contains extensive Noise Reduction, the most extensive Noise Reduction of all models in the I-Series. The Aavik I-580 has no fewer than 72 Active Tesla Coils and 240 Active Square Tesla Coils. These Tesla Coils extract various electromagnetic radiation from the air and inside the enclosure, ensuring a pure and undistorted music signal inside the amplifier. The Aavik I-580 also contains 4 Anti Aerial Resonance Coils. The digital electronics feature no fewer than 11 Analog Dither Circuits. Power consumption is very favorable. The Aavik I-580 consumes only 0.5 watts in standby, and in music mode consumption is 50 watts idle. Technically, the amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are the crème de la crème of digital amplifiers, and not only that. In our view they are the first Class D amplifiers with a 100% analog character without a trace of harshness, and where even after extended listening sessions no listener fatigue is experienced.

Sound : What we are used to from Class D amplifiers is tight dynamics, and a neutral and rhythmic sound. Yet there is often something missing in musicality, something that not only says: "wow, that sounds impressive", but also something that invites you to keep listening. At some point after getting used to a certain sound, the "wow factor" disappears, and what must remain is music, because that is ultimately what it is about. The amplifiers from Aavik Acoustics are so far the first Class D amplifiers where we have the feeling that we are not only listening to something that sounds technically optimal, but also very musical and delivers an engaging, intriguing and especially beautiful sound. The Aavik I-580 first of all simply sounds very fine. Relaxed, spacious, and an enormous 3D bubble. The space in which the performers play is very clearly audible and the atmosphere is well conveyed to the listener. The Aavik I-580 sounds transparent, dynamic and lets you hear everything, but there is also a certain peace & comfort hanging over the sound. The sound is perfectly balanced and the overall picture simply works. In terms of dynamics, the Aavik U-580 may well go further than most Class A (Tube) amplifiers, but that is not ultimately what it is all about. It is about sound quality, and the extent to which an amplifier is capable of conveying emotions. And conveying emotions is where the Aavik amplifiers excel. This Aavik I-580 is pure emotion sung. We are very enthusiastic about the entire Aavik Acoustics range and the Aavik I-580 is by far the most high-quality member of the family.

Conclusion : the Aavik Acoustics I-580 is a unique integrated amplifier with generous output power (2x300 Watts continuous) and a formidable built-in DAC and fantastic sound quality. The Aavik I-580 sounds by far the most detailed, defined, organic and spacious of the I-Series. The operation is very simple and superb, the format is compact and the weight is easy to handle. We know of no other amplifier with so much power in such a compact, light and especially beautiful enclosure that sounds so incredibly good.
